Alma Family Services

Alma Family Services Providing community-based services for those with special needs including emotional, physical and/or development delays.

Alma Family Services was established in 1975 in East Los Angeles by parents to provide, along with other purposes, a comprehensive range of multilingual community based services for families including those with special needs. Since its inception Alma has a “whatever it takes” tradition of multilingual, culturally competent services to meet client’s needs in their homes and residential facilities, schools, social and vocational programs, juvenile facilities, and other settings as appropriate. In addition, Alma provides eight interdisciplinary mental health outpatient office locations serving all age ranges including those with substance abuse in the cities of Long Beach, Walnut, Pico Rivera, El Monte and East Los Angeles and which also serve adjacent communities. Alma also provides mental health services which are functionally integrated within community health facilities in the greater East Los Angeles and San Gabriel communities including The Wellness Center at the Historic General Hospital Center in Boyle Heights. Child and Family Development programs include the Mac Laren Children Center, Centro Estrella Family Resource Center, Preschool Center, Socialization and Community Integration Training, Family & Peer Support and a unique Aquatics Center with programs for children, adolescents, adults and older adults with special needs. Alma Family Services also provides services to “Youth at the Crossroads” in terms of risk of gang involvement. Alma is the lead agency for a collaborative Gang Reduction Youth Development Program (GRYD) serving youth and families who reside in the Boyle Heights/Hollenbeck area of the City of Los Angeles. GRYD programs represent a historic effort on the part of the City of Los Angeles Mayor’s Office to reduce crime rates and gang membership in specific communities with a high degree of gang activity and violence. Alma’s Probation Youth Community Reentry Program offers clinical supportive services for at-risk youth and their families following their release from probation camp. Services are focused on addressing delinquent behavior to reduce the rate of recidivism.

As our communities continue to recover from the recent fire, Alma is pleased to stand alongside Supervisor Hilda Solis and the First District in this ongoing response.
Over the past three weeks, Alma's Health Promoters, Youth Development Workers, Therapists, Case Managers, and Managers have united around one shared purpose: ensuring residents have access to timely information, essential resources, and meaningful support.
Through neighborhood canvassing, resource navigation, and support at the East LA Civic Center, Belvedere Park, Salazar Park, and Our Lady of Victory, our team continues to meet people where they are.
Together with Supervisor Hilda Solis ' First District team, County Departments and community partners, we have supported the distribution of water, masks, and more than 6,000 air purifiers while connecting vulnerable individuals and families to additional services.
Though each of us experiences life's trials differently, healing, recovery, and hope are strengthened when we walk together, drawing on the resilience and compassion we share as a community. 💙

A heartfelt thank you to the Los Angeles County Hispanic Managers Association (LACHMA) for its immediate response and partnership with Alma Family Services following the warehouse fire.
Through LACHMA’s generous support, alma delivered air purifiers to over 100 vulnerable families, including older adults from senior centers, children attending local preschools, individuals living with chronic health conditions, and others with exceptional health and support needs.
We are deeply grateful to LACHMA for standing with our community and helping protect the health and well-being of our most vulnerable neighbors during this challenging time.

Grateful for the opportunity to partner once again with LA County First District Supervisor Hilda Solis to support families with exceptional needs across our community. Thanks to her leadership and generosity, Alma Family Services directly provided 500 turkeys to families in East LA — and joined Supervisor Solis’ larger effort that distributed more than 3,400 turkeys at community events in El Monte and East Los Angeles.

Special appreciation to the California Water Service for helping us reach even more families, and heartfelt thanks to every Alma staff member who showed up with care, compassion, and dedication.

This season of generosity reminds us of the power of community care.
Wishing everyone a warm and Happy Thanksgiving! 🧡🦃✨

We were proud to join this year's East LA Mexican Independence Day Parade. In partnership with the Los Angeles General Medical Center and support from the office of First Supervisorial District' Supervisor Hilda Solis, Alma created a dedicated Inclusion & Visibility Section, a welcoming space for individuals with special needs and seniors to enjoy the parade with comfort, safety, and support. This celebration uplifted our traditions and pride while honoring the strength of every community member, ensuring all shared in the joy and unity of the day.
