Indigenous Peoples Day ✊🏽

Today is a day commemorating the history, identity, experiences and aspiration of the First Nations / Natives of the Americas. Indigenous peoples are not one homogenous group. Each Nation is very unique and we must never superimpose one Nation's history, identity, experiences or aspirations onto the other.

To all those who think that supporting Native Americans and Native Canadians on this day has anything to do with "taking down America or Canada", you should know that First Nations do not seek to create a country or state or to replace the civilization that now exists. Their ideology follows the premise that land does not belong to humans, rather it is humans who belong to the land.

If more took the time to hear what their needs actually were, most would realize that supporting the First Nations on this day is about bringing awareness, accountability, support, dignity, and internal/external prosperity to these marginalized and special communities. Give them space to express themselves!

"Land" to most Westerners is usually seen as property or real estate, but to indigenous peoples land is sacred and the life source of the people rooted to it.

Let's not use this day to spark controversy or to step away from the actual conversations that have been squashed and silenced for too long. We need to show solidarity and support, especially from other indigenous peoples around the world.

Mitzva Wellness Family sends its deepest condolences to the Ed Asner Family Center our dear friends, Navah & Matt and the family on the loss of their father/father-in-law and the Centers namesake. Today we mourn the loss of a legend who had a heart of gold. Our beloved namesake, Ed Asner. Many knew him as the gruff comedian with impeccable timing, but for us he was a father, grandfather, friend and champion. Ed was kind, gentle and fierce- champion for individuals living with special needs. We love you, Ed. Rest in peace knowing that through your talent, humor, strength and commitment you made this world a better place for all of us. We will continue to honor your legacy everyday.
