As a client, you can choose how political you want your therapy to be. There are clinicians who take a stance and bring it into the room. There are those who don’t.
For us, it’s somewhere in the middle. For example, I think it’s important to address the oppressive systems that may keep some folx from accessing therapy. In that way, we are political, because we are aware of those obstacles and working around them: striving for inclusivity by assembling a diverse team who can reflect many of your identities or considering how inflation may affect some groups differently than others and therefore offering low fee or in network services.
Once we’re in the room, however, your experience is what matters. There’s a relationship of course. But. It’s the therapist’s job to manage their own views and hold space for you. To meet you where you are. To preserve the fundamentals and sacredness of talk therapy, listening. ALL are welcome here.

IMMIGRATION STATUS IS CONFIDENTIAL. If you are affected by the ICE raids in CA, please reach out to us. Deb is Spanish speaking and can hold sacred space for you while you begin to process these times. In addition, you can trust us to be a resource for you outside of talk therapy. If you are in any kind of need, let us know. We are committed to supporting you in any way we can, including connecting you to legal organizations or non profits that are offering a range of services for those who do not feel safe in public at the moment.

From Chuck: I view the role of therapy as learning to look at yourself and the world through a lens of curiosity. We’ll create a space where you can sit alongside your emotions as they surface, while tuning into the wisdom of your body in real time. It’s through this process that stories are unearthed and we can begin the work of self-discovery, healing, and transformation.

My areas of expertise lie in Psychodynamic, Mindfulness Self Compassion and Somatic Experiencing. As a neurodivergent LGBTQ+ affirmative therapist, I’m committed to providing a safe and supportive environment for individuals of all identities and orientations.

Hopping on here for a minute to introduce our new associate, Deborah Alvarez!
From Deborah: Hi, I’m Deb! Creative thinker, lover of nature, and natural-born healer. I’m grateful that you’re considering letting me join you on your mental health journey.

My work is rooted in liberation psychology, which emphasizes the importance of dismantling systemic oppression. My approach is grounded in the understanding that cultural and societal forces shape our perception of reality, affecting how we think, feel, and act. I believe humans are natural storytellers who intuitively know what they need to thrive. Curiosity and empathy are central to my approach, and I strive to create a space where you are honored and feel empowered to be the author of your own story.

I offer sessions in English and Spanish, with familiarity working with children, adolescents, women, families, couples, neurodivergent individuals, and members of the LGBTQIA+ community. I have experience with anxiety, panic, trauma (including relationship trauma), chronic illness, and relationship and immigration challenges.

I have a Bachelor’s in Psychology, a Master of Science in Consumer Psychology, and a Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy (with a focus on Latinx communities). In my free time, I enjoy reading, writing, cooking, baking, gardening, yoga, and pilates.

These folks. The way they support each other, advocate for their clients, and bring directness, clarity, and wisdom to this work is simply a joy to watch.
