The Medicare GLP-1 Bridge program launched July 1, 2026 and gives eligible patients access to GLP-1 drugs for $50/month 🤯, but have you successfully used it yet?!

Clinicians and patients are finding it tricky to navigate, for good reason. But follow these steps VERY carefully - selecting the right patient, the right drug, and putting all the right info in the prescription - including BIN, PCN, GRP and ID numbers - and at the end your patients will be very, very grateful! 👏

Cyclosporiasis is...STILL HERE. 😔 The #1 question we got on Sarah's last post from the frontlines in Michigan was, "but what do we do if the patient has a sulfa allergy?!" 😱

Nobody wants to touch this one because the question is not easy to answer.💩 Nothing is as effective as trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole for treatment of cyclospora 😔. Here's what you need to know if there's a sulfa allergy to worry about:

✅ ciprofloxacin is considered second line but not. 100% effective
✅ nitazoxanide is expensive and not easily available, and studies on efficacy are small
✅ patients with milder symptoms can often clear it on their own, so supportive care may be an option
✅ the decision about "what to do now?" depends on the severity of the sulfa allergy and the severity of illness of the patient sitting in front of you

Unfortunately, summer ALWAYS means BBQs 🍔 and picnics 🌭 and... food poisoning. Watch as Ashley and Katie try to guess these bugs...did you get the answers right? 😕

🚨Cyclospora follow-up!🚨 Because “just wash your produce” is not enough right now. 😩 Prevention counseling needs to be more nuanced.

🍓Higher-risk raw produce includes bagged salad mixes, raw leafy greens, fresh herbs, berries — especially raspberries — and pre-cut raw produce.
💦 Washing helps reduce risk, but it does NOT reliably eliminate Cyclospora.
💧Vinegar and produce washes do NOT kill Cyclospora oocysts. 😔
🔥Cooking is the most reliable method to kill the bug - but you have to heat to 158F.
🚫High-risk patients, especially immunocompromised patients, should avoid raw high-risk produce during outbreaks.

is still a hot topic, and one common symptom complaint is insomnia. 😴 This month on Primary Care RAP, Micaela and Suzette discuss progesterone use as a possible sleep aid in menopausal women. There's not a LOT of evidence out there, but, well....we'll let them tell you their conclusions. 👍
