You don't have to wait for a crisis to start talking about the future. 💛

For families with aging parents, conversations about care can feel uncomfortable, but talking early can give everyone something incredibly valuable: Time.

Time to listen to what your parent wants, time to explore different options, time to understand what kind of support they would be comfortable accepting, time to make decisions together instead of making them under pressure and most importantly, time to make sure your parent's voice remains part of the conversation.

Planning ahead doesn't mean you're expecting something bad to happen, it means you're giving your family the opportunity to be prepared.

You don't have to solve everything today, sometimes, you just need to ask the first question.

A week later, we're still smiling about this night. 💛🔥

Our Summer S’mores Night was filled with the kind of moments that make a community feel like family.

Residents gathered with their loved ones in the courtyard for an evening of:

🍫 S’mores
🔥 A little marshmallow roasting
😂 Plenty of laughter
💬 Good conversation
💛 And, most importantly, time together

There's something special about slowing down on a summer evening and simply enjoying the people around you.

We're so grateful to everyone who joined us, brought treats, pulled up a chair, shared a story, or simply spent time with our New Bethany family.

These are the moments we hope to create more of, not just activities to fill a calendar, but experiences that give our residents and families opportunities to connect, laugh, and make memories together.

Thank you to everyone who helped make the evening so sweet. 🍫✨

One of the most important conversations you can have with your parents is one most families put off.

Not because they don't care, sometimes it's because no one knows how to begin.

Talking about aging, changing needs, or what the next chapter might look like can feel uncomfortable. But waiting until a crisis forces the conversation can make an already difficult moment even harder.

When the time is right, consider talking with your parents about:

💛 What they want.
What does a fulfilling next chapter look like to them?

💛 What they don't want.
Are there things they're worried about or strongly want to avoid?

💛 Where they want to live.
Would they prefer to remain at home? Would they be open to a community? What environment would make them feel comfortable?

💛 What kind of support they would accept.
What would make everyday life easier while still allowing them to maintain as much independence as possible?

💛 Who they trust to help make decisions.
If circumstances change, who do they want beside them?

These conversations aren't about taking choices away.

They're about making sure your parent's voice is heard while they have the opportunity to share what matters most to them.

And you don't have to figure everything out in one conversation.

Start with a question. Listen. Come back to it. Give everyone time to think.

Planning ahead doesn't mean you're expecting the worst. It means you're making space for your family's wishes before you need to make difficult decisions quickly.

Sometimes, the most loving thing we can do for the people we care about is simply start the conversation. 💛
