Ever wonder what happens before a procedure like a dental implant or wisdom tooth extraction? For many patients, it starts with a CBCT scan.

A cone beam CT creates a detailed 3D picture of your teeth, jaw, and bone, helping your treatment plan be guided by precision, not guesswork. It’s especially useful for dental implants, impacted teeth, and surgical planning.

The scan itself is quick and painless β€” just one short pass with no discomfort β€” and it can be done right in our office. Plus, CBCT uses low-dose 3D imaging, resulting in significantly less radiation than a traditional CT scan.

Ask about 3D imaging at your next consultation!

Missing teeth? There are two common ways to replace them: dentures or full arch implants.

Dentures rest on the gums and often need adhesives to stay in place. Full arch implants anchor directly to the jaw, helping you eat, speak, and smile with confidence.

Over time, dentures can't stop the jaw bone from gradually receding. Full arch implants can help stimulate and preserve the bone.

Wondering if you're a candidate for full arch implants? Call (408) 384-4089 or visit www.cupertinooralsurgeon.com or www.lgofs.com to find out.

Can oral surgery be done before braces? Yes. It is often the first step.

Extractions for crowding, impacted canine exposure, wisdom teeth removal, and corrective jaw surgery can all support orthodontic treatment. Your oral surgeon and orthodontist work together to time each step appropriately.

Swipe for the four most common reasons. Early evaluations, often in the teen years, can help keep braces on schedule instead of delaying them.

Tooth replacement is as easy as 1, 2, 3.

Step 1: Your surgeon removes the damaged tooth and places a titanium implant into the jawbone.

Step 2: The implant heals for about 6 weeks while your jawbone fuses to it, creating a permanent foundation.

Step 3: A custom abutment and crown complete your restoration, looking and functioning like a natural tooth.

With proper care, dental implants can last a lifetime. Reach out to the team at Cupertino Oral & Facial Surgery or Los Gatos Oral & Facial Surgery to see if dental implants are right for you. Call (408) 384-4089 to schedule a consultation.

Do you need to go to the ER if you knocked your tooth out?

If you can still breathe, swallow, and stop the bleeding, you probably don't need the ER. You need an oral surgeon.

The ER handles medical emergencies. Oral surgeons treat facial trauma, knocked-out teeth, dental infections, jaw injuries, and wisdom tooth emergencies directly. Coming to us first can often mean fewer referrals, faster treatment, and getting the specialized care you need sooner.

Not sure what to do? Call Cupertino Oral & Facial Surgery or Los Gatos Oral & Facial Surgery first. That one phone call is often the biggest time-saver.

So your wisdom teeth are out. Now what?

The first 24 hours are the most important. Rest, ice the outside of your jaw, and stick to soft, cool foods (think yogurt, applesauce, mashed potatoes, and smoothies without seeds or a straw). Skip anything crunchy, spicy, or hot for a few days.

Following your surgeon's aftercare instructions is the best way to avoid dry socket and get back to feeling like yourself as quickly as possible.

Today we honor Juneteenth.

On June 19, 1865, news of freedom finally reached the last enslaved Americans in Galveston, Texasβ€”more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation.

It’s a day that holds both grief and joy, and serves as a powerful reminder of how long freedom can take to arrive, and how deeply it is valued.

From all of us at Los Gatos and Cupertino Oral & Facial Surgery, we honor the resilience of those who came before us and the communities we are proud to serve today.
