A powerful full-circle moment for David Scott. ❤️ After a near-fatal cardiac event, David was reunited with the Norton Heart & Vascular Institute care team who helped save his life. The team placed him on ECMO and supported him through an extraordinary recovery.
Now, he’s paying that lifesaving care forward.

David and his family made a grateful patient donation to Norton Heart & Vascular Institute through the Norton Healthcare Foundation to advance ECMO education and innovation. During his visit, David got to see the ECMO simulator technology his generosity helped fund. This technology helps prepare the next generation of caregivers to respond when every second matters.

Three nominations, one extraordinary leader. Amanda was recognized by her coworkers for the compassion, strength, and support she brings to her team every day.

As she stepped into a leadership role, Amanda became a steady presence staff could rely on, whether that meant answering late-night calls, helping with patient care, offering encouragement after difficult shifts, or simply being there when someone needed support. Her impact was especially felt during the heartbreaking loss of a beloved coworker, when she stepped up to care for both her patients and her team while navigating her own grief.

Through every challenge, Amanda has led with empathy, kindness, and a genuine commitment to the people around her. Her coworkers describe her as the backbone of the unit, a trusted leader, and a source of strength when it is needed most.

🌼 Congratulations, Amanda, on your well-deserved DAISY Award!

“You heard his cowboy boots coming down the hall before you heard him. You knew help was on the way … or a joke.”

For those who knew Kelly C. McCants, M.D., his cowboy boots were unmistakably him. Now they serve as a lasting reminder of the compassion, humor and heart he brought to Norton Heart & Vascular Institute every day.

The permanent tribute to Dr. McCants is located at Norton Heart & Vascular Institute – Audubon on Floor G1, where his office once was. His boots and memorial plaque now stand in a place where he spent so much of his time caring for patients, supporting colleagues and making a difference.

We invite our Norton Healthcare staff, patients and community to stop by, remember Dr. McCants and reflect on the lasting footprints he left behind. ❤️

Some legacies leave footprints that last far beyond a lifetime. ❤️

The Norton Healthcare community gathered to honor the life and legacy of Kelly C. McCants, M.D., with the unveiling of a permanent tribute at Norton Heart & Vascular Institute - Audubon. The display features Dr. McCants’ beloved cowboy boots alongside a memorial plaque. This serves as a reminder of the one-of-a-kind physician, leader, mentor and friend who wore them.

Dr. McCants dedicated his career to transforming heart care, advancing health equity and ensuring every person had a fair chance at better health. His impact can be felt across Norton Healthcare and throughout our community.

But those who knew him also remember the way he made people feel - the time he gave his patients, the encouragement he offered his colleagues and the grace he brought to everything he did.

His boots now have a permanent home at Norton Healthcare, but the footprints Dr. McCants left on our patients, our community and each other will carry on for generations.

For a year and a half, tiredness was just part of Randy Hamilton’s life. He’d get home from his job as CAO of Norton Audubon Hospital, eat dinner and be in bed by 7:30 or 8 p.m. — and still never feel rested. He didn’t have chest pain. He didn’t have shortness of breath. He just felt worn out, and it was starting to cost him time with his family.

It turned out that persistent fatigue was one of the only coronary artery disease symptoms he had — and it was significant enough to lead to a lifesaving diagnosis.

No chest pain, no shortness of breath — just fatigue. Learn why coronary artery disease symptoms can be subtle, and how a simple test found a 90% blockage.
