If you play a sport that involves a lot of throwing or a similar motion to it, or your daily activities require you to repetitively lift heavy objects, your shoulder pain might be a torn labrum. The only way to determine with any certainty that you have torn your labrum is with imaging tests like CT scans or MRIs. However, in order to narrow down the possible origin of your shoulder pain, doctors may perform simple, non-invasive movement tests like the Mayo Shear Test.

If you’re suffering from persistent, long-term shoulder pain, you’ve lost your strength or range of motion in your shoulder, and you feel like you’ve tried everything (ice, rest, painkillers, waiting) — It’s time to consult an orthopaedic doctor.

Rotator cuff tears are found in 30-50% of the population ages 50+ and are one of the most common injuries to require surgical treatment. However, the longer you wait to seek help, the lower the chances of recovery are. Optimal healing is contingent on remaining proactive, diligent, and healthy.

When it comes to surgical needles, like most other medical equipment, there are different sizes. The most common sizes range from 16-27 gauge, which is the unit of measurement used for needle thickness. The diameter of a needle gets smaller as the gauge number increases. So, a lower gauge will be a thicker needle, and a higher gauge will be thinner. Additionally, needles will vary in length, usually from .375″ – 3.5″ (Abdul Karim, Medsitis).

If you are feeling pain in your shoulder, your doctor may conduct a shoulder adductor test. Because the shoulder is made up of two joints, the glenohumeral joint and the acromioclavicular joint, this test can help identify which of them may be producing the pain. A shoulder adduction test determines if someone has acromioclavicular pain, or pain at the AC joint.

Hip bursitis is inflammation of the bursa, a small, fluid-filled sac that reduces friction between tissues. The iliotibial band is a common cause for hip bursitis, causing irritation and inflammation as it crosses the greater trochanteric region of the hip bone. The main symptom is pain on the outside of your hip, which can become sharp and intense, especially when you press on it or lie on that side. You might notice the pain worsening with activities like walking, climbing stairs, or standing for long periods. Women tend to get hip bursitis much more than men because they have a wider pelvis, but middle-aged and elder people are also affected more often. Bursa pain is no joke, but there are several methods of hip bursitis treatment that you can try to help manage the pain.
