👟 Milestone Monday: Make Movement Fun for the Whole Family!

Being active helps children build strong muscles and bones, develop coordination, sleep better, and create healthy habits that can last a lifetime. The best part? Exercise doesn’t have to feel like a chore!

Try these fun ways to get everyone moving:

• Turn on your favorite music and have a family dance party
• Take a walk and create a neighborhood scavenger hunt
• Play tag, hopscotch or follow the leader
• Ride bikes or scooters together
• Create a simple backyard obstacle course
• Let each family member choose an activity
• Celebrate effort, participation and fun—not just winning

Even short bursts of movement throughout the day can make a difference. When families get active together, children learn that taking care of their bodies can be fun!

We want to thank Rep. Morgan McGarvey and his staff for convening this group of community leaders to have this important discussion around the cuts coming to Medicaid. Many of our patients rely on Medicaid coverage for their health care, their medicines, their peace of minds. 💙 MILESTONE MONDAY: Growing Toward Independence

The teenage years bring some big milestones—and not all of them happen at school or behind the wheel!

Learning to take an active role in their own healthcare is an important step toward independence. Parents and caregivers can help teens begin building these skills:

🩺 Encourage them to ask questions during appointments
💊 Teach them the names and purposes of their medications
📅 Help them learn how appointments are scheduled
📝 Make sure they know important parts of their medical history
🗣️ Give them opportunities to speak directly with their healthcare provider
❤️ Talk about the importance of caring for both physical and emotional health

These small steps can help teens develop the confidence and knowledge they’ll need to manage their health as adults.

At Family Health Centers, we’re here to support teens and families through every stage of growing up.

🌙 Milestone Monday: Back-to-School Sleep Milestone 🎒💤

Backpacks are packed, alarms are set… but is your child’s sleep schedule ready for back to school?

Getting enough sleep is an important part of a child’s growth, learning and overall health. A consistent bedtime routine can help kids feel more rested, focused and ready for the school day.

How much sleep do kids need?
💤 Ages 3–5: 10–13 hours per day
💤 Ages 6–12: 9–12 hours per night
💤 Ages 13–18: 8–10 hours per night

Tips for getting back on schedule:
⏰ Keep bedtime and wake-up times consistent—even on weekends.
📵 Turn off phones, tablets, TVs and other screens at least 30–60 minutes before bedtime.
🛁 Create a calming bedtime routine with a bath, reading or quiet time.
🥤 Avoid caffeine later in the day.
🌙 Make bedrooms cool, quiet and comfortable for sleep.
☀️ Get plenty of daylight and physical activity during the day.

If summer has pushed bedtime a little later, gradually move bedtime and wake-up time earlier until your child is back on a school-friendly schedule.

A good school day starts the night before! 💙
