Kindred Hospital Louisville at Jewish Hospital specializes in treating critically ill patients. Our hospital does not offer emergency services.

We specialize in the treatment and rehabilitation of the post-intensive care and complex medical patient requiring intensive care, including specialized rehabilitation, in an acute hospital setting. With our services we provide a wide array of rehabilitation therapies to help patients progress to positive outcomes, regain function and safely return home as quickly as their recovery allows.

Maribeth, who has a long history of COPD and pulmonary hypertension, went to an emergency room with shortness of breath, confusion, and increased oxygen needs. Doctors found that she had acute exacerbation of COPD.

She was transferred to Kindred Hospital Louisville at Jewish Hospital, where she received respiratory therapy, as well as physical, occupational, and speech therapy. At Kindred, her respiratory status improved, and she was able to drop from 11 liters of oxygen support back to her home baseline of 5 liters.

As she got better, Maribeth was excited to be able to finally shower, walk the hallway, and have chips and a soda. Maribeth, who lives with and cares for her elderly mother, is excited to be going back home to her family and her cats.

Connie has a medical history that includes diastolic heart failure, pulmonary embolism, and multiple abdominal surgeries. One day, she experienced nausea, vomiting, fatigue, and abdominal pain. She was diagnosed with a small bowel pneumatosis (abnormal gas within the intestinal walls) and small bowel obstruction. She was transferred to Baptist Hospital for surgery. She also had a Stage 4 wound and an electrolyte imbalance.

At Kindred Hospital Louisville at Jewish Hospital, Connie received IV fluids to help treat the prolonged electrolyte imbalance. She completed a course of IV antibiotics during her stay and respiratory therapy treated her with a nebulizer (a device that converts medication into a mist for inhaling). When she left the hospital for inpatient rehabilitation, she had no need for oxygen support. Her Stage 4 wound was also healed, thanks to the work of the wound care team.

Connie is excited to be progressing so well and getting back home soon.

She said: “Everyone here was great and really took great care of me, especially Dianne, Yvonne, Steve, and Rikiaa.”
