A while back, during a difficult health situation in my family, I was introduced by my priest to Saint Panteleimon.

He is known in the Orthodox Christian tradition as an “unmercenary healer,” meaning someone who cared for and treated people without greed, exploitation, or obsession with financial gain.

That word “unmercenary” stuck with me.

Not because I think businesses shouldn’t make money.

I’m a homeschooling dad with a family to feed, and after 20 years in the health and fitness industry I understand very well that sustainable work has real costs.

But I also think we’ve created a world where almost every part of health has become increasingly impersonal, fragmented, and financially out of reach for normal people.

So at Wholly Mountain, we’ve been working to build something different.

A more human approach.

Real accountability. Human relationships. Detailed structure.

Meeting people where they are and helping them consistently over time.

As the founder, I’ve used my years of experience in luxury level health coaching to create a new standard of service, but available to anyone who has at least a little something to invest, and is committed truly to their health.

While every other health and fitness business is busy trying to maximize profit, investor returns, or social media status…

we are going to do our best to genuinely help people improve and stay healthy long term.

That idea was deeply inspired by Saint Panteleimon and the broader spirit of unmercenary care… which we believe our country needs a lot more of in times like these.

If you’re in the Louisville area and feel stuck with your health, weight, energy, or consistency, reach out.

We’d be honored to help if we can.

After 20 years in the health and fitness world, I’ve come to one conclusion.

The system is broken.

We have more gyms, programs, apps, and “experts” than ever before…

And yet people are more confused, more stuck, and more unhealthy every year.

It’s not a lack of information.

It’s a lack of structure, guidance, and real accountability.

Healthcare gives advice but no follow-through.

Fitness is fragmented and expensive.

Online coaching is often distant and generic.

So people try, restart, lose momentum… and eventually assume the problem is themselves.

It’s not.

It’s the system.

That’s why I’m building something different with Wholly Mountain.

An ongoing, structured health practice.

We build a plan around your real life and stay with it until it works.

Nutrition, movement, routines, accountability.

Not for a few weeks. For as long as it takes.

Inspired in part by Saint Panteleimon and the idea that real care should be accessible.

If you’re willing to commit, you won’t be turned away for financial reasons.

Colon cancer in younger adults is real. It is not just media panic. Rates have been rising in people under 50, and screening now generally starts at 45 instead of 50.

People with family history, polyps, inflammatory bowel disease, Lynch syndrome, or FAP may need screening earlier.

Re**al bleeding, ongoing bowel changes, unexplained anemia, unexplained weight loss, persistent abdominal pain, and stool narrowing should not be ignored.

Screening matters because polyps can often be found and removed before they become cancer.

What do we absolutely know?

Age still matters. Family history matters. Inflammatory bowel disease matters. Certain genetic syndromes matter.

Processed meat, heavy alcohol use, smoking, excess body fat, physical inactivity, and low-fiber eating are all connected to higher colorectal cancer risk.

This does not mean every case is caused by lifestyle. It means these are the levers we have the most confidence in.

What should we be suspicious about?

The modern food environment. Ultra-processed foods, chronic overeating, low fiber intake, poor gut health, frequent alcohol, poor sleep, sedentary living, and long-term metabolic dysfunction are all reasonable suspects.

The research is still being worked out, but it is not crazy to think the average American gut is living in a very different world than it was 70 years ago.

What is probably overblown? One random ingredient. One diet soda. One seed oil meal. One stressful week. One hot dog at a ballgame. That is not how most chronic disease works.

The bigger issue is the repeated pattern: low fiber, too much processed food, too much alcohol, excess weight around the waist, not enough movement, and ignoring symptoms because you are “too young.”

The logical framework is simple. Know your family history. Get screened when appropriate. Do not ignore symptoms.

Build a lifestyle that lowers total risk across the board: more beans, vegetables, fruit, whole grains, walking, strength training, better sleep, less alcohol, less processed meat, and a healthier waistline.

Most people are not dealing with one big failure.

It’s a slow accumulation of small misses that compound over time.

You look up and another year has passed.

Weight is up a bit, energy is down, and a few health markers are moving in the wrong direction. Nothing extreme, just steady drift.

There are a few consistent reasons this keeps happening:

First, health is treated like a leftover task. Work has a schedule. Kids have a schedule. Everything important gets a time and a place. Eating well, moving, and sleeping are handled when there is room. Most days there is not much room.

Second, people change plans too often. There is always a new approach, a new set of rules, a different way to eat or train. Each one might work, but none of them are followed long enough to produce a result. Starting over feels productive, but it resets progress.

Third, there is no clear feedback. If something starts to slip, it goes unnoticed. A few pounds here, lower energy there, workouts becoming less consistent. Without simple tracking and regular review, small problems grow quietly.

Fourth, the plan does not match real life. Most adults are managing work, family, and stress at the same time. A plan that requires perfect days will fall apart on a normal week.

The fix is not complicated, but it requires a shift in how this is handled.

Put basic structure around your week. Decide in advance what you will eat most of the time, when you will move, and how you will protect sleep. This removes daily decision making.

Stay with one approach long enough to see what it actually does. Progress takes time, and consistency matters more than picking the perfect method.

Create a simple feedback loop. Track a few things that matter and look at them regularly so you can adjust before problems get large.

Build everything to work on a busy week. If it only works when life is calm, it will not hold.

Most people keep adding effort without changing the system. The people who improve make the system easier to follow than to avoid.

Probably a lot of people you know are talking about Ozempic, Wegovy, and Zepbound right now. These ads are even popping up at gyms and of course all over your social media.

For some people, these drugs can be incredibly helpful. If someone is severely overweight, battling diabetes, or truly needs medical intervention under a physician’s care, that may be a very reasonable path.

But here’s what concerns me.

Many people are jumping straight to injections before addressing the obvious things that quietly drive weight gain and poor health in the first place.

Ultra-processed foods.

Liquid calories.

Constant snacking.

Poor sleep.

Sedentary lifestyles.

Stress eating.

No structure.

No accountability.

No real understanding of nutrition.

No long-term plan.

A weekly injection may reduce appetite, but it does not teach someone how to grocery shop differently, cook differently, move consistently, manage stress, or build a lifestyle they can actually maintain for the next 20 years.

And many people are paying hundreds or even over a thousand dollars per month for these medications while still lacking any real support. They are benefitting from a band-aid now, but where will they be in 5 years?

That’s backwards.

Before jumping right to medication, it would be better for most people if they had an expert to sit down with them, understand their full story, build a realistic nutrition and movement plan, and help them stay consistent long enough to create real change.

That’s what we do at Wholly Mountain.

We help overwhelmed, overweight people build sustainable health through personalized nutrition, movement, accountability, and community-supported pricing so normal folks can actually afford support.

Medication may be appropriate for some people.

But for many others, the first prescription should be better food, daily movement, accountability, and a plan built around real life.

That foundation changes everything

Perimenopause” Isn’t New. But the Way We Talk About It Is.

For most of history, women in their 30s and 40s quietly endured years of changes they couldn’t explain.

They weren’t “menopausal” yet—but their sleep was wrecked, their weight was shifting, their moods felt off, and the energy they once had seemed to vanish without warning.

Doctors often brushed it off as stress, anxiety, or aging.

And because there was no real name for it… most women assumed it was just them.

Now we call it perimenopause. But this transition isn’t new—it’s always been part of the story. What’s new is that we’re finally talking about it, out loud and with honesty.

Of course, with awareness comes a wave of wellness marketing—every powder, patch, and pill claiming to fix what you’re going through.

But here’s what we believe:

You don’t need a band-aid.
You need a plan—one that respects the complexity of what’s happening in your body.

We help women navigate perimenopause and beyond through:

• Personalized nutrition that works with your hormones, not against them

• Accountability and coaching so you’re never left wondering what’s wrong with you

• And a holistic strategy rooted in truth, not trends

Because this isn’t just about losing stubborn weight or getting your energy back (though that happens).

It’s about finally feeling like you’re in partnership with your body again.

If you’ve been wondering why your old routines stopped working—or feeling frustrated, foggy, or inflamed—this season has a name. And you don’t have to figure it out alone.

We’re here to help you feel seen, supported, and stronger than ever.
