Sergent Wellness

Sergent Wellness Tired of the runaround: doctor visits, unnecessary Xrays, MRIs, "take this" "Don't lift that" “Just rest”? Ready to reclaim the lifestyle you love? Knox, KY.

You are in the RIGHT place. Our approach uses tailored recovery plans to support you every step of the way. Sergent Wellness began in 2014 inside a small CrossFit gym on Frankfort Avenue. Dr. Julie Sergent started her practice in a space that barely fit a treatment table, but she had a clear mission: to provide hands-on, patient-centered physical therapy without the restrictions of insurance. Afte

r years of working in traditional healthcare settings, she saw how rushed appointments and productivity quotas often stood in the way of real healing and lasting change. She knew there had to be a better way. What started as a small operation grew steadily as more patients sought out care that put them first. Over the years, Dr. Julie treated patients in a few local gyms and shared spaces before opening her first stand-alone location in the fall of 2018. Opening the doors to this dedicated space was a dream come to life. Over the years, Sergent Wellness has continued to evolve—deepening community connections, expanding techniques through ongoing education, and continuing to grow its wellness team. Through it all, the heart of our practice has remained the same: delivering personalized care, whole-body wellness, and sustainable lifestyle change through advanced therapies like dry needling, movement-based education, postural restoration, pelvic floor support, PEMF, and more. Every patient deserves time, attention, and expert care tailored to their goals. Whether you're an athlete, an active professional, or simply someone who wants to live and move more freely, Sergent Wellness is here to help you build strength, resilience, and confidence in your body. Chin tucks are a simple exercise that can help improve neck posture by strengthening the deep neck muscles and encouraging better head and neck alignment.

Think of making a “double chin” by drawing your chin straight back, without looking down. Hold for a few seconds, relax, and repeat up to 10 times.

A little practice can go a long way toward building better posture and neck control! 💪

Happy National Relaxation Day!

No, I’m not judging you.

After 18 years as a physical therapist, I can’t help but notice:
how someone sits, stands and moves through the world.

Every profession has some degree of occupational hazard and this is mine. Whether I’m at the park, at the mall, in the gym or in the office, part of my work is noticing movement patterns and compensations and how they play into a potential ache/pain/injury.

Your body is always giving clues - and how you move is a big one!

What’s a profession-specific thing you notice everywhere?

You don’t need more conflicting advice.

Some of the most common beliefs about pain and recovery can actually keep people from making progress.

Here’s what we see every day in the clinic:
• Pain doesn’t always equal damage. Pain is a signal and part of the puzzle as to what’s going on.
• Complete rest is often one of the worst options for injury recovery. Graded movement and return to activity by a knowledgeable physical therapist is the winning combination.
• Tight muscles aren’t always a stretching problem. More often, a chronically tight muscle is a muscle that’s not strong enough to do its assigned job. In some cases, stretching will actually make the condition worse.
• Building strength is an essential part of reducing pain and the recovery process ; not something you wait to do.
• Regardless of your age, change and relief is possible! We’ve found that the way our patients feel and are able to participate in life is more of a reflection of their habits, workout routines, and lifestyle choices than their chronological age.

There’s no shortage of information floating around on the interwebs. Knowing what to do/ what not to do/ how to get back to doing that thing you want to do. It can be a confusing and frustrating process, especially when you’re dealing with a persistent ache/pain or injury.
Having the right provider will help you cut out the noise and narrow down what YOUR body needs!

Which one of these surprised you the most?

Movement doesn’t have to be perfect to matter.

Doing half of your home program counts.
A 5-minute walk counts.
A 3 minute movement break counts..

Some days everything happens right on schedule and you can complete your planned workout.
Most days though, don’t go as planned and the time you have slotted for your workout or PT exercises dwindles.

We encourage you to do what you can with the time you have.
Whether it’s 2 minutes or 20 minutes, building the habit of showing up keeps moving the needle towards your goals.

Part of our work is helping our patients weave exercise, healthy habits, and lifestyle changes into their existing routines.
The key is to keep showing up, YOU GOT THIS!

What’s been the biggest game changer for you in staying consistent? For me, it was putting my workouts on my google calendar, essentially scheduling an appointment with myself.

Exercise has a HUGE impact on our minds and quality of life.

Studies show that women who exercise regularly report being:
52% happier
48% more confident
and 50% more energized than when they’re sedentary.*

Movement isn’t about being perfect, it’s about showing up for yourself again and again. However small, these habits help you build momentum, and momentum fuels motivation.

Every woman deserves a movement practice that honors her goals, schedule, and body.

Whether you’re eager to start but overwhelmed by choices, returning after a break and worried about injury, or simply ready to level up your strength training, we are here to guide and support you with expertise, empathy, and unwavering encouragement.

You may think the hardest part of my job as a physical therapist is complex injuries, documentation, or the high mental demand; but the truth is it’s hearing patient after patient express their deep regret:
“I wish I would’ve taken better care of myself sooner.”

You know I am deeply passionate about longevity, strength, and building a body that can support the life I want to live for decades to come.
I just shared a personal new blog about the tools, testing, habits, and mindset shifts I’m using to invest in my future health and independence.

If you’ve been thinking differently about aging, strength, energy, or wellness lately, I think this one will resonate with you.

Your body is not perfectly symmetrical.
And it’s not supposed to be!

PRI considers the inherent asymmetries of the human body and looks at your breathing patterns, posture, muscle imbalances, and more- and how all these factors influence the way you move and feel.

PRI treatments and techniques focus on restoring optimal diaphragm function, nervous system regulation, and specific groups of muscles to create balance and more efficient movement.

Using the right muscles for the job means less compensation, less muscle tension and ultimately less times of injury and stalled progress. A PRI program helps you use the muscles you intend to use for any given movement / exercise / lift.

Patients who have participated in PRI focused sessions report feeling an increased sense of balance in their bodies. They report feeling more secure and more stable through their lifts as well as decreased flare ups of pain and injury.

At Sergent Wellness, we use PRI to help active adults and athletes move better, feel stronger, and recover from injury.

Curious if PRI could help you feel stronger, more balanced, or more confident in your movement? Send us a message or drop a comment below and we’ll chat about whether it might be a good fit for you. 💪🏼
