Last week I shared some of the benefits of pre and probiotic foods - and explained that prebiotics provide food for probiotics! Here are some ideas for how you can pair those in balanced snacks or meals!

What's your favorite way to get in your pre and probiotics?

Of course these are also general wellness tips! But did you think I was going to list "Make social connections daily" as #1?

A few years ago I definitely wouldn't have listed this as a top gut health tip. However, I think the 2020 pandemic helped us realize the importance of social connections, and their impact they may have on overall well-being.

We already knew that loneliness and social isolation could be linked to increased mortality rates. However, we are also continuously learning more about the gut microbiome, and we now know that this can also have a negative impact on the bacteria in your gut!

SO - instead of trying all the elimination diets, and supplements out there, start with the basics.

Connect to those around you.

Manage that heavy load of stress.

Add in some joyful movement today.

Try to get a little sunlight as you're enjoying your breakfast.

If your plate doesn't have color - try adding some produce to get a little color in.

Overall health and wellness starts with the basics. You can't supplement these things.

If you're feeling a little down today, maybe your gut needs some love? Our bodies are so intelligent. You may think our brains are doing most of the work, but this goes to show there's a lot more to it!

"Your gut has capabilities that surpass all your other organs and even rival your brain. It has it's own nervous system, known as the enteric nervous system, or ENS, and is often referred to in the media as the "second brain." This second brain is made up of 50-100 million nerve cells, as many as are contained in your spinal cord."
