I used to think creating a magical childhood meant creating magical things for my kids to do.

Lots of crafting, activities, and extracurriculars.

But the further into motherhood I get, the more I’m starting to think I had it backwards.

The most magical moments are not ones my adult brain curated for them, but rather the ones they crafted on their own and I get to witness.

The launching pad for their world of imagination is often a dead flower, a patch of dirt that is asking to be dug, a discarded pile of rubber bands, following an animal around, a box from the recycling pile (which most recently turned into a whole imaginary airplane that was boarding soon and promised “smooth landings and take offs”)😂

Maybe my job isn’t to make their childhood magical.

Maybe it’s to protect enough time and space for them to make some magic of their own and then get to be part of it. 🧚🏼‍♀️

Dunno why they aren’t selling 🤷🏻‍♀️😂But maybe this is round two of adding to Strawberry’s retirement fund 😳🍓❤️

At the beginning of the season, we said we wanted you to nominate moms in the community to receive our extra market bouquets…

Turns out… you guys kept buying all the flowers. 😂

We’ve sold out almost every single week this season (which is the very best problem to have) but last week, a few bouquets finally made their way home with us.

So flowerfarmdad started something he’s been wanting to do all summer:

(Which is basically just handing a stranger some flowers because sometimes a little unexpected beauty can change your whole day)

Main Street in Berthoud is currently our go-to spot… maybe we’ll see you there next week 😉

I don’t think this little farm will ever really be “finished” and we’re almost through season 2 and I’m starting to feel okay with that…

We have six acres and approximately 847 ideas for what they could become.

Some days building that vision looks magical (shout out to the adorable sheep).

Other days it looks like mowing down waist-high weeds so we can find the pathways again. 😂

So I figured… why not bring you along for all of it?

The projects. The experiments (I swear I said “experiment” 17 times to the reporter that came out last week). The things that work. The things that absolutely do not. And the slow transformation of these six acres into something really beautiful.

Welcome to Building Poppy. Where, yes, you can find deep nervous system healing, but I still have zero chill when it comes to the weeds.

Life is hard enough. We’re sprinkling in the silly wherever we can. 🌸🪩

Dance parties in the flower studio. Babies on chest. Kids underfoot. Music playing. Flowers everywhere.

Sometimes the answer to the hard seasons is putting on a song we all love and aggressively dancing over a bucket of zinnias. 😂

Consider every Poppy bouquet officially anointed with a little chaos and…. a LOT of joy. ✨

Repeat every time I change irrigation zones 😅

At least my dahlias are hydrated and my quads are thriving.

PS this is (part of) why your local flower farmer can’t compete with grocery store (that one starts with a T and ends with Joe’s) pricing

There’s so much of farming that isn’t beautiful.

It’s dirt under your nails (all the time), sweat in your eyes, weeds that grow faster than you can pull them, things breaking, things dying, plans changing, and work that never really feels finished.

And then there are these little moments.

An armful of flowers.
Sheep following you through the field.
Kids running down a mowed path.
The light hitting everything just right on a dewy morning.

Tiny flashes of beauty tucked inside all the mess and hard work.

So yeah, I love it.
