America just hit a milestone worth pausing on: our death rate is now the lowest ever recorded in 125+ years of US history. 📉

I broke this down on Fox & Friends First — here’s the headlines:

✅ Death rate fell to 689.2 per 100,000 in 2025 — down 4.6% from last year, and now below our pre-pandemic baseline
✅ Life expectancy hit 79 years for the first time — with 2025 expected to set another record
âś… The two biggest drivers? A stunning ~40% drop in drug overdose deaths from their 2023 peak, and continued declines in COVID mortality

But — this isn’t a full “mission accomplished” moment. Heart disease deaths are still rising in raw numbers. Certain communities, including American Indian and Native Hawaiian populations, actually saw death rates go up. And we still trail peer nations like Japan and Switzerland by nearly 4 years of life expectancy, despite spending more on healthcare than anyone else on earth.

My take: America is both a success story and a work in progress. We’re living longer than ever — and there are still several more years of life on the table that we already have the tools to reach.

That’s a wrap on 2026! ✨✨ What an amazing experience being a speaker at such an impactful conference. I shared my story — and then something beautiful happened — you shared yours back with me. Over and over. It blows me away how inspiring this room of over 300 women is. The amount of love and support amongst these women in medicine cannot be understated. I’m leaving humbled, grateful, and so excited for what’s ahead. 🤍✨

What an incredible afternoon in Fort Worth. 🤍
I was so honored to be invited by the Laura W. Bush Institute for Women’s Health to speak at their Feed Your Mind luncheon series — a room full of remarkable women who showed up ready to learn and ask the hard questions.
A heartfelt thank you to Mrs. Kit Moncrief for her generous sponsorship of this annual event. Her support makes it possible to bring evidence-based health education directly to women in the community.
To every woman in that room: your health is worth the investment. Keep asking questions, keep pushing back on the noise, and partner with your physician to make decisions based on evidence — not algorithms. 💛

…until tip off. Walked in the youngest and the only woman. Left them no choice but to make room.

Up next: Round 2. Baton Rouge.
A room full of people who underestimated us.
The Texas Tech Lady Raiders have been proving people wrong all season — I’m just glad I get to do it right alongside them.

Some people review game film. I suture oranges.

Sideline medicine doesn’t come with clinic lighting, quiet rooms, or unlimited time.

So game prep looks a little different when you’re the team physician.

The goal is that I never need to do this on game day.

But sports medicine moves faster than clinic medicine — louder, more chaotic, and usually on a clock.

Preparation matters when it’s Big 12 basketball. 🏀🧵
