Medical laboratory scientists analyze body tissues, fluids, and other substances using complex instrumentation, sophisticated techniques, and specialized knowledge. As key members of the patient care process, medical lab scientists provide 70% of the critical objective information for diagnosis, treatment, and preventative health care.

The TTUHSC Bachelor of Science Medical Laboratory Science is a fully accredited, 2+2 degree program that trains you in clinical skills and techniques. Recent Master of Science in Molecular Pathology graduates Daniel Ganoe, Julyann Munoz, and Julia Carmona were awarded the AGT Student Research Award for their abstract titled, "Detection of Helicobacter pylori by SBYR Green Real-Time PCR Targeting the glmM Gene."

A poster and platform presentation took place at the Joint Annual Meeting for Clinical Laboratory Science, Association of Genetic Technologists, and Society of American Federal Medical Laboratory Scientists in June 2026 in St. Louis, MO. The project was mentored by Professor Celesta Gibbs.
