After all the pet talk around here yesterday, it got us thinking about the special role our animals can play as our families grow.
Some seem to know labor is coming before anyone tells them. Some stay glued to your side through every contraction. And then there’s that first introduction when your pet meets the brand-new tiny human who is suddenly part of their family too.
If you’re preparing to bring a baby home, a little preparation can help make that transition easier for everyone. Let your pet get familiar with new baby gear and sounds ahead of time, try to keep their routine as consistent as possible, keep those first introductions calm and unhurried, and always supervise interactions between pets and babies.
But mostly, we want to hear your stories.
Did your pet act differently before or during labor? How did they react when they met your baby? Did they immediately become best friends? Keep their distance? Act personally offended by the new addition?
Tell us about your baby’s first furry, feathered, or scaly sibling. Bonus points if you share a picture with us.
Held in love, through every new beginning.
