Every child develops at their own pace, but around 12 months old, many little ones begin showing exciting communication milestones!

You may notice your baby:
✨ Responds to their name
✨ Uses gestures like waving, pointing or reaching
✨ Understands simple directions such as "come here" or "give it to me"
✨ Says 1–3 meaningful words like "mama," "dada" or another familiar word

Remember, communication starts long before full sentences. Every gesture, sound and first word is an important step in your child's development.

One of the most common questions new parents ask is, "How do I know my baby is getting enough milk?"

While every baby is unique, these are some reassuring signs that feeding is going well:
✔️ 6+ wet diapers per day
✔️ Steady weight gain
✔️ Content after most feedings
✔️ Audible swallowing during feeds

As we wrap up Better Speech and Hearing Month, we want families to know that speech development is connected to so much more than just words. 💚

The muscles used for speaking are also involved in chewing, swallowing and overall oral development. That means challenges with oral function like strength, coordination and range of motion can sometimes impact speech and feeding as well.
