During the Christmas season, it is not unusual for me to find myself in a mindset of reflection. This morning my thoughts centered on just how quickly time can pass, bringing changes in people, places, hopes, dreams, goals, situations - some welcomed changes and some not so much. I tell my clients often that "Every moment is a new now." The nows add up to hours, days, weeks, months, then years. The seasons of life come and go, life is busy. But then sometimes, as I have done in recent days, in a thoughtful moment of "reflection" we may stop long enough to just be in the moment, the now. Then realize this "now" is a moment in time when life just feels so very different. Now, people you love so dearly are just gone and you feel their absence much more deeply. Now, friendships with those who were once close may have been reshaped by the demands of work or busy family schedules. Now, the littles you used hold in your lap at Christmas now hold their own littles. Now, wWhere you were once energetic and on the go, you've now had to slow down a little, watch your step and move a little more carefully and safely. So much change and yet, I can't help but think about that still small voice in my heart that reminds me NOW, of the one thing in my life that will never change with time, seasons, business, or age, and that is constant pesence of Jesus Christ in my heart working in all areas of my life.
I am filled with gratitude and a humble heart that God looked down through time and knew we, as humans, would need an unchanging constant - a loving Savior born on Christmas Day. He would be the same yesterday, today and forever - a Provider, a Healer, a Counselor, our Peace and so much more all wrapped in that one little blanket back then, so he could always be EMANUEL "God with us" in our NOW. Sort of mind-blowing actually, the complexity and simplicity of it all. I don't claim to understand either. And I sure can't explain most things about this world, but there is one thing I know for sure and that is the consistency of God's Love, Grace, and Faithfulness - not just to offer us hope for eternity, but also (Because of Christmas Day) to walk with us through all of our moments - our new nows - our new seasons: the sad ones, the happy ones, the safe ones, the scary ones. Always here, always near, now.
As we celebrate Christmas and prepare to welcome a new year, I am especially grateful for the many ways He has been my constant both personally and professionally. Since opening Pathways in May of 2012, it has been an incredible privilege—now going on 14 years—to serve our community through mental health, substance abuse, family counseling, and in recent years, psychological services. I am deeply thankful for the trust of our referring community, our trusting clients, and for an exceptional team of clinicians and admins who care deeply about providing thoughtful, compassionate, and professional services. I think all the time about how blessed I am with our Pathways family. It's truly an honor to lead this team.
Meanwhile, in looking toward the end of another year and into the future, I still consider this work both a calling and a blessing. My hope is that the coming year brings renewed strength, clarity, and hope to each of you. From our Pathways family to yours, we wish you a very Merry Christmas and a New Year filled with peace, purpose, and possibility. God Bless You All.
