We've had our first monthly session of the semester with our Learning Partners – PINEYWOODS AREA LEARNERS HOME SCHOOL GROUP. They had the wonderful opportunity to meet Floyd Marsellos and Elizabeth Bones, two of our residents who shared stories and experiences from their lives. Mr. Marsellos spoke about architecture and poetry, while Mrs. Bones offered fascinating insights into growing up in England. She even shared the remarkable story of seeing the Queen when they were just 6 and 8 years old!!!
The children were absolutely amazed by the ages of our residents who are 101 and 97. In fact, the residents were delighted when one little boy guessed they were only 80 years old!
The visit concluded with a writing workshop, where several students were inspired to write poems about their experience and the stories they heard throughout the day. The residents enjoyed reading the children’s work and offering encouraging feedback.
It was a meaningful and memorable intergenerational experience for both the children and our residents.
