☀️ Sunday: Sunna, Bearer of the Sun ☀️

Sunna is the divine personification of the Sun, illuminating the worlds with her light and marking the passage of days. In Norse cosmology, the Sun is not merely a celestial body but a goddess who rides across the heavens, bringing warmth, life, and order to Midgard.

Like her brother Máni, Sunna is the daughter of Mundilfœri. According to the myths, their father named his children after the Sun and Moon, an act the gods viewed as prideful. As both punishment and sacred duty, Sunna was placed in the heavens to guide the Sun’s course through the sky.

Each day Sunna drives her shining chariot across the heavens, pulled by the horses Árvakr (“Early Awake”) and Alsviðr (“All Swift”). Beneath their harnesses the gods placed cooling bellows, for the heat of the Sun would otherwise consume them.

Sunna is relentlessly pursued by the wolf Sköll, whose chase drives the movement of the Sun across the sky. At Ragnarök, Sköll will finally catch her, plunging the worlds into darkness before a renewed Sun rises in the age to come.

"Sól tér sortna,
sígr fold í mar."
— Völuspá

Though later traditions often reduce the Sun to a symbol of simple light or happiness, Sunna’s role is far deeper. She embodies vitality, perseverance, sacred order, and the life-giving power upon which all living things depend. Her daily journey reflects endurance in the face of inevitable fate, a central theme within Norse thought.

Sunnudagr takes its name directly from Sunna and preserves one of the oldest surviving elements of the Germanic calendar. For our ancestors, the Sun governed agriculture, travel, navigation, seasonal cycles, and survival itself. To honor Sunna was to honor the force that sustains all life.

🌿✨ Here's Why I've Been MIA... ✨🌿

A new thread has been spun into our family's wyrd.
On the morning of June 3rd, 2026, at 4:47 AM, beneath the turning heavens and the watch of the gods, our daughter entered Midgard.

ᚠ Freyja Rosalynn Mae Alexander ᚠ
⚖️ 8 lbs 12 oz 📏 20.1 inches long

In the old Norse worldview, every life was woven by the Norns at the roots of Yggdrasill. From the moment of birth, a person's fate became part of the greater tapestry of wyrd, connected to ancestors, kin, and generations yet to come.
Our little one now begins her own journey through this world, carrying the luck of her family and the stories of those who came before her.

As her namesake Freyja is remembered in the sources as a goddess associated with love, beauty, seiðr, and noble strength, may this child grow with wisdom, courage, resilience, and joy.
These past days have been spent in the sacred work of welcoming new life, resting, healing, and marveling at this small soul who has joined our hearth and hall.

Thank you all for your patience while I've been away. The halls of our home have been blessed with new laughter, new wonder, and a new chapter in our family's saga.

Hail the ancestors who walked before her. Hail the gods who watch over her. And hail the beginning of a new life woven into the tapestry of wyrd.

40 weeks + 4 days. 🌙✨

Through every moon of Máni and every thread woven by the Norns, I have carried you beneath my heart.

My body is weary from the journey, but my soul is ready for the next chapter.

The waiting is long, but fate is drawing near.
Soon, little one, my arms will finally know what my heart has loved all along.

🌙 Monday: Máni, Keeper of the Moon 🌕

Máni is the divine personification of the Moon, governing time, tides, and the quiet rhythms of night. Like his sister Sunna, Máni is not a distant object but a god set upon his course by the Æsir, bound to the turning of the heavens and the unfolding of wyrd.

Máni is the son of Mundilfœri, whose pride in naming his children after the Sun and Moon angered the gods. As punishment and purpose Máni was placed in the sky to guide the Moon’s passage and mark the months (mánuðir), from which both Máni’s name and Monday’s name are derived.

Máni is pursued through the heavens by the wolf Hati Hróðvitnisson, whose eventual catching of the Moon will herald Ragnarök. This eternal chase reflects the Norse understanding of time as cyclical yet fated, always moving forward toward transformation.

“Máni heitir maðr,
er tungls heitir,
ok rennr hann svá sem sól.”
— Gylfaginning

Unlike later lunar symbolism tied primarily to romance or illusion, Máni’s role is measured and sacred. He governs the counting of nights, the movement of tides, and the hidden growth that occurs in darkness. In myth, he is also accompanied by the children Bil and Hjúki, whom he took from the earth figures often interpreted as reflections of the Moon’s phases or its influence on timekeeping.

Mánadagr takes its name directly from Máni and predates Christian calendars. In pre-Christian Scandinavia, the Moon’s cycles guided agriculture, travel, ritual timing, and law. To honor Máni was to honor order within change.

🌑Máni governs several sacred domains⤵️
• Lunar cycles and timekeeping
• Tides and hidden currents
• Memory, reflection, and inner knowledge
• Night travel and quiet protection

For modern practitioners, Monday in Máni’s current is a day for⤵️
• Lunar magic and divination
• Dream work and ancestral listening
• Setting intentions aligned with Moon phases
• Honoring unseen growth and patience
Walk softly. Watch the sky. What grows in darkness shapes what will rise in light.

Hail Máni,
Watcher of the Night Sky.
