Five common myths about pediatric speech therapy:

❌Myth #1: “They’ll grow out of it.”
While some children do catch up on their own, many speech and language delays require intervention. Waiting can make it harder for children to develop the communication skills they need for school and everyday life.

❌Myth #2: “Speech therapy is only for children who can’t talk.”
Speech therapists help with so much more than talking. They support language development, articulation, social communication, fluency (stuttering), feeding, and even literacy skills.

❌Myth #3: “My child is too young for speech therapy.”
Early intervention is one of the most effective ways to support communication development. Children can begin speech therapy as infants and toddlers when delays are identified.

❌Myth #4: “Speech therapy is just playing.”
Play is a child’s language, and skilled speech therapists use play intentionally to teach communication, problem-solving, social skills, and language in ways that are engaging and effective.

❌Myth #5: “If my child needs speech therapy, I did something wrong.”
