Melanoma is the deadliest form of skin cancer, and it does not discriminate by age, race, or gender. Just five or more blistering sunburns between ages 15–20 can increase melanoma risk by 80%. Starting tanning bed use before age 30 increases risk by 75%.

Prevention matters:
☀️ Seek shade whenever possible
🧢 Wear protective clothing
⏰ Avoid direct sun from 10 AM–4 PM
🧴 Use broad-spectrum SPF 30+ daily

One of the easiest skin check tips to remember is the “ugly duckling” sign 🦆

This refers to a mole or spot that looks different from the rest of the spots on your skin. Maybe it’s: darker, larger, more irregular, or simply the one that stands out to you.

That doesn’t always mean it’s dangerous, but it does mean it’s worth paying attention to.

If you notice a spot that is new, changing, bleeding, itching, or just doesn’t look like your others, it’s a good idea to have it evaluated.
