I had so much fun with Alina and Jackson at Vaughan House Micro-Weddings! There were a lot of laughs, lots of sweet moments, and a tequila shot for their unity ceremony that I may or may not have accidentally double poured. 🤭 They took it like champs but what absolutely sent me was Alina reaching into her wedding dress pocket afterward and pulling out a little bottle of pineapple juice for a chaser. I about lost my mind laughing. 😂 I was NOT expecting that! These two were so much fun to spend time with and I’m so happy I got to be the one to make them officially husband and wife! 🤍

A little PSA for anyone planning a micro wedding, elopement, or proposal on the Blue Ridge Parkway… I was sent this photo taken this past weekend at Thunder Ridge Overlook and was incredibly disappointed to see this many rose petals left behind. National Parks are not wedding venues where we get to leave our decorations behind when we’re finished. They are protected public lands and it is our responsibility as couples and wedding professionals to treat them that way.

And yes, even real, biodegradable flower petals need to be cleaned up. Many National Parks specifically prohibit scattering flower petals because they can affect wildlife and potentially introduce non native plant species. Federal regulations also prohibit improperly disposing of refuse on National Park Service land and violations of NPS regulations can potentially carry fines of up to $5,000 and/or up to six months imprisonment. Those are maximum penalties but the point is that “Leave No Trace” isn’t simply a suggestion.

If you bring it in, take it back out. Please don’t let beautiful places like Thunder Ridge become collateral damage for a pretty photo. As someone who regularly has the privilege of officiating weddings here, I want couples to be able to continue getting married and engaged in these beautiful places for many years to come. Let’s respect them and leave them exactly as we found them. 🤍

Saying your personal vows to each other, in my opinion, is even more intimate than your first kiss as a married couple. Because of that, you can expect me to step to the far side just as I do for your first kiss. Like I tell all of my couples… the last thing you want in these moments is to see and feel my presence in your peripheral vision. You deserve this space to open up your hearts to each other and be in the moment. 🤍
