It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Bernice Catherine Young.

The Master spoke to our beloved one and said, “The day is done and your work is done.” This is a joyous occasion when you know that your loved one is sitting around the throne of Jesus!

Bernice was born on August 30, 1943, in Lynchburg, VA to the late Charlie Lewis and Catherine Saunders. Bernice was a caring wife and loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. Early in life she joined Peaceful Baptist Church, Lynchburg, Va. She later united with C Street Baptist Church, in Lynchburg, VA, where her faithfulness and dedication led to her being honored as Deaconess and Mother of the Church. In addition, Bernice was the “Founder of Helping Someone Along the Way Ministry”.

Bernice Catherine Young, affectionately known as “Boly,” departed this life on Friday, May 22, 2026, at Lynchburg General Hospital at the age of 82. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Johnny James Young, affectionately known as “JJ”.

Bernice leaves to mourn two sons, George Rucker and Otis Rucker (Sherry) both of Lynchburg, VA; three daughters, Joyce Sparrow and Teresa Jackson both of Lynchburg, VA and Michelle Thomas (Herbert) of Goldsboro, NC; 11 grand-children, Rodney, Jr. George, Jr., Tiara, Erecka, Raymond, Sr., Jonathan, Charles, Jr., Otis, Jr. and Ashley all of Lynchburg, VA, Crystal and Rochelle both of Goldsboro, NC and 24 great grandchildren; a special uncle, Leverne Jenkins of Lynchburg, VA; sister-in-law, Josephine Jones of Manhattan, NY; brother-in-law, Clarence Young of New Jersey; special friend, Vanessa White, Leading Lady, C Street Baptist Church, Lynchburg, VA and numerous other relatives and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held 3pm on Saturday, June 6, 2026 at Community Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery.

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Donnie Leroy Morgan Sr.

Donnie Leroy Morgan, Sr. was born on May 24, 1959 in Lynchburg, VA to the late Joyce Pollard Loving and Wesley Morgan.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepfather Charles W. Loving Sr.; his brothers, Vincent Loving and Jessie Loving and his grandparents Frank and Dorothy Hawkins Sr.

Donnie was baptized at an early age at Mt. Peeler Baptist Church. He attended Campbell County Public Schools and graduated from E C Glass High School. He would say that he was the best track star in high school. Donnie also played basketball and football. His favorite team was the Oakland Raiders.

Donnie will be missed greatly. Every Mother's Day and birthdays he would be out putting flowers on the graves and telling you he has beat you to the cemetery. He did what he loved to do, if you needed him he was always there. His famous saying was “I'm the oldest don’t forget it”. Donnie did not have a problem speaking his mind and saying what he had to say and meant what he said and he still said I Love You.

Donnie leaves behind to cherish his memory six sons, Donnie Morgan Jr., Derrell Pollard, Alex Morgan, Jack Woodson, Kevin Watkins and Kevin Hunter; three daughters, Taneshia Johnson, Taffeyia Young and Taccora Abbitt; 14 grandchildren; two sisters, Maria Loving and Samantha L Turner (Lorenzo); five brothers, Wesley Pollard, Dennis Pollard, Charles Loving Jr., Anthony Loving (SanTa) and Ravenelle Loving; three aunts, Rebecca Pollard, Sarah Robenson (Vincent) and Frances Hawkins; one uncle Frank Hawkins Jr.; bonus mom Angie Loving; devoted friend Diane Thompkins and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A memorial service will be held 1pm on Saturday, May 16, 2026 at Community Funeral Home. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home.

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Princess La'Dawn Watkins.

Princess La’Dawn Watkins, 25, of Lynchburg, VA, passed away peacefully at her home on May 4, 2026. Born to Antionette Denise Watkins and George Sidney Lee Garland Jr. Princess was a true light to the world and a guardian angel to those who knew her.

A LIFE OF JOY AND KINDNESS

Princess was best known for her contagious smile, her wonderful presence, and a joyful laugh that could brighten any room. She was a positive example to others, always showing love and a "hand of kindness" that knew no bounds. No matter what some one was going through, Princess had a unique way of making them smile. Always uplifting and encouraging.

She was a devoted mother, daughter, sister, niece, and friend who worked hard and remained a constant source of strength for her family. Her favorite hobbies included: spending cherished time with her family, working hard in her professional life, enjoying the beauty of nature and always finding ways to help others.

EDUCATION AND AMBITION

A graduate of high school in Henrico County, Princess was committed to her personal and professional growth. She was a PCA , CPR and CNA certified as well as a phlebotomist and was actively continuing her education by studying Pharmacy Tech at Penn Foster.

FAMILY AND LEGACY

Princess was preceded in death by her sister, Porshia Lynette Garland, her uncle, Darnell Anderson, and aunt Veronica Anderson. In addition to her parents Princess’s beautiful legacy continues through her survivors, her daughter, A'mourra Watkins “Lolli”; twin brother, Jaquan Cardwell “TRE”; grandparents, Doris Watkins, Paulette Foxx, and George Sidney Lee Garland; aunts and uncles, Doris Watkins, Alphonso Morris Jr, John Watkins Jr, Tiffany Watkins, Veronica Carr aka Lisha, Bernadette and Shanon Brown, Monique Claxton., and Jessica dantiggnacc; cousins, Kamiesha Anderson, Kevin Chambers, Nathan, and Neveah Dudley, Gavon and Kayla Anderson and Destiny Anderson and a host of extended family members and dear friends who will miss her spirit deeply.

A graveside service will be held 12pm on Friday, May 15, 2026 at the Old City Cemetery. Family and friends will assemble at the cemetery.

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Rosa Lee Jones Cheatham.

Rosa Jones Cheatham, 87, peacefully departed this earthly life on May12, 2026 at her residence. Born May 16, 1938, in Appomattox County, VA, she was the beloved daughter of the late Ashby Bolling Jones and Elsie Elliott Jones. She was united in marriage to the late Arnold Leroy Cheatham on March 24,1956 and their union was blessed with five children.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, A. Leroy Cheatham; her son, Anthony “Tony” Cheatham; and her daughter, Rhonda Nadine Austin (Steve). Her brothers and sisters; Rev. Dr. Winston R. Jones, Kenneth Jones, Frederick Jones, Warren Jones, Anita D**e, and Rita Brown.

Rosa leaves a legacy to be cherished by her children; Elvis Cheatham of Richmond, VA and Gerald Cheatham of Lynchburg, VA, and Sherry Cheatham of Lynchburg, VA., her sister, Pearlene Hamler of Richmond, VA. She was a very proud grandmother to three grandchildren; Rhonette Cheatham (Rob Robertson) of Richmond, VA, Khalilah Foskey (Keith) of Moseley, VA, and Larry Jones (Erin) of Goodview, VA. She was further blessed with six great-grandchildren who brought her immense joy; Janiah Foskey, Peyton Foskey, Kahliel “KJ” Foskey, and Kayvon Foskey of Moseley, VA, Reid Jones of Goodview, VA, and Kaelyn Robertson of Richmond, VA. A loving circle of nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends, who will also treasure her memory. Her dear friends Patricia Gentry, Sara Elliott, and Rev. Dr. Ruth Massie.

Rosa received her formal education in Appomattox County and graduated from Carver Price High School in Campbell County. She spent her career working with the mentally challenged at Central Virginia Training Center in Madison Heights, VA.

Although Rosa battled Parkinson’s Disease, she never allowed it to dim her light and love of life. As the anchor of her family, she always found a way to make lemonade out of lemons. She lived a wonderful life full of love, laughter, passion, grace, style, kindness and humility. Some family and friends knew her as Rosa Lee, Aunt Rosa or Auntie. All of her grandkids affectionately called her “granny.” She was a faithful and active member at First Baptist Church South Lynchburg under the tutelage of her favorite Pastor and brother, Rev. Dr. Winston R. Jones. As her health became more challenging, she enjoyed watching YouTube on Sunday mornings where her nephew, Rev. Dr. R. Stuart Jones, ministered to Fifth Street Baptist Church.

A celebration of life will be held at 12 Noon on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at Fifth Street Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the St. Luke Baptist Church Cemetery, Brookneal, VA. Repast to follow at Fifth Street Baptist Church.

Her remains will lie in state one hour prior to the service. Family and friends will assemble at the church.

The family will also be receiving friends at the residence, 1300 Gilmore Circle, from Saturday, May 16 through Monday, May 18 from 4-7PM.

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Victor Leon Thomas.

On Saturday evening, May 9, 2026 God called home a soldier. Victor Leon Thomas was born on April 14, 1956 in Bedford, VA.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. Bransford and Mrs. Rebecca Thomas; six brothers, Phillip, Ralph, Roger, Carlton, Craig and Dennis; sisters, Larene Harris, Sheila Thomas and Gloria Spinner.

Victor was a product of the Bedford County School System and spent his life with multiple occupations.

Victor is survived by three sisters, Opal Hawkins ( Phillip) of Maryland, Sandra Young (Andrew) of Maryland and Janet Spinner of Lynchburg; two brothers, Terry Thomas of North Carolina and Charles Thomas of Lynchburg; three sisters in law, Minister Hazel Thomas, Sharon Thomas and Mary Thomas and a host of other relatives and friends.

A memorial service will be held 1pm Friday, May 15, 2026 at Community Funeral Home.

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of David "Babycake" Lewis Crawley.

Life’s race well run, Life’s work well done, Life’s crown well won and “now” he rests.

David Lewis Crawley affectionately known as “Babycake” transitioned peacefully from this life in Charlottesville, VA on May 5, 2026. He was born on August 11, 1962 to the late Thomas E. Crawley, Sr. and Nancy Mays Crawley. He was the 5th of seven children.

David Lewis Crawley (“David Lou” as he was sometimes called by his siblings) worked several jobs over the years but considered himself a master of all. He served in the Armed Forces and was a proud Army Veteran receiving care from the Veterans Hospital in Charlottesville.

David L. Crawley leaves to cherish his memory his siblings, Thomas E. Crawley, Jr.(Catherine) of Madison Heights, VA, James Crawley (Towanna) of Madison Heights, VA, Rosa Mae Crawley of Clarksville, TN, Carl Crawley of Northern, VA, John Crawley of Madison Heights, VA and Anissa Crawley of Madison Heights, VA; two aunts, MaryKatherine Thomas and Shirley Ann Betts; two uncles, Charles Mays and Alfred Mays all of Madison Heights, VA; nine nephews and seven nieces who will miss Uncle Babycake immeasurably and a host of cousins and friends from Lynchburg and Madison Heights, VA.

Many thanks to his devoted friend Brandon. Special thanks to CM Ashley, AM Christy and his many neighbors he called friends from Charlottesville.

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Bernard Raymond Woods.

Mr. Bernard Ray Woods, 92, of Concord, VA passed on Wednesday, May 6, 2026 . He was preceded in death by his parents, Bernard and Willia Woods and his sister, Norma Jean Woods.

Ray was a graduate of Paul Laurence Dunbar High School. He served in the United States Army and went on to be a successful businessman, taking over his father's trucking business.

He was baptized in Diamond Hill Baptist Church in Lynchburg, VA and later joined Peaceful Grove Baptist Church in Concord, VA.

He is survived by his devoted wife Virginia, his son Steven (Shelly) Woods of Douglasville, GA and his daughter, Greta Robertson of Linthicum Heights, MD and a special stepdaughter, Wanda Dawson of FL; brothers, James (Myrtle) Woods of Yorktown, VA and Harry (Consuella) Woods of Lynchburg, VA; sisters, Ernestyne Booker and Elizabeth Woods, both of Beckley, WV. He is also survived by six grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. Ray also shared a close relationship with in laws, Emory Johnson and Shirley Thornhill.

A funeral service will be held 1pm Tuesday May 12, 2026 at Community Funeral Home. Military Rites will be provided by American Legion Post 16.

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Ralph "Joe" Lee Spinner Spinner Jr.

Ralph Lee Spinner Jr, age 87 of Lynchburg, VA, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, May 3, 2026, at Lynchburg General
Hospital. He was surrounded by his loving and devoted family. Born June 13, 1938, in Goode, VA. He was the son of the late
Ralph “Sweetie” and Mandy Spinner Sr. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 50 plus years, Jean Gilmore Spinner.
Ralph “Joe” was a faithful member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church and attended Mt. Rock Baptist Church until his health
declined. He loved both church families and serving the Lord.

Sunday was the Lord’s Day and the family treasured spoiling him
by picking him up for church, taking him out to eat dinner, driving down by Community Funeral Home to see if he saw his
friends until the night hours. He always had a smile. Ralph “Joe” spent his life with multiple occupations. He was one
of the first Black Lynchburg City Bus Drivers. He owned the City Cab Co., restaurants and worked part-time at the Community
Funeral Home. He demonstrated pride and found joy while playing the piano for the Mt. Rock Men’s Chorus and was also a
pianist at the Shiloh Baptist Church in Bedford, VA. He was always willing to fill in wherever needed. He never met a
stranger; whether he was at work or at home. Joe believed that if a job is worth doing, it’s worth doing right.

He is survived by his children Ralph L. Spinner III of Bedford, VA, Carole Robinson of Richmond, VA and Donna Brown (Craig) of
Virginia Beach, VA; four sisters, Phyllis Jean Thomas, Sarah Ann Williams, Yvonne Anderson (James) and Michele West; Ralph
would always share memories of growing up with his special cousin, Gaynelle Moore who he thought of as another sister;
Sharon Beaden and Kim Scott were more than nieces, they were apples of his eye and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren,
nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

A funeral service will be held 2pm on Friday, May 8, 2026 at Poplar Springs Baptist Church. Interment will be in the church cemetery. The family is receiving friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
