What an amazing Saturday morning we had! We were able to provide 52 children with fresh haircuts for school and gave away more than 90 backpacks filled with school supplies. Thank you to all of the volunteers who came out to help make this event such a success. A special THANK YOU to Ryan, Cheyanne, Shelby, and Lauren — we truly appreciate your support in helping these kiddos get ready for their first day of school!

Amber Crews recently joined Dopson Medical Center’s Family Practice as our newest APRN. She previously worked as an RN in our Emergency Department. Q: How did your career at BCMS start?
I began my career at BCMS in 2010 and have had the opportunity to serve in multiple nursing roles throughout the years. Those experiences helped shape my passion for patient care and allowed me to grow both personally and professionally within the organization. After completing my Doctor of Nursing Practice degree and becoming a Family Nurse Practitioner, I’m excited to step into this provider role and continue caring for the community I’ve been proud to serve for many years.

Q: Why did you decide to work in the medical field?
I’ve wanted to work in healthcare since I was a young child. I’ve always had a naturally empathetic and nurturing personality, and as I grew older, that passion for caring for others developed into a career in nursing and ultimately becoming a Family Nurse Practitioner.

Q: What do your day-to-day responsibilities usually look like?
I see patients of all ages for acute illnesses, chronic disease management, wellness visits, preventive care, and patient education. I enjoy helping patients navigate their healthcare needs while creating individualized treatment plans that support their overall well-being.

Q: What makes you proud to be a care provider?
What makes me most proud is the opportunity to make a positive impact in someone’s life, whether it’s helping a patient feel better, providing reassurance during a difficult time, or building trust with families over time. Being able to serve my community through healthcare is incredibly rewarding.

Q: What’s one fun fact about yourself?
Outside of work, I love antiquing and refinishing vintage furniture, gardening, and spending time outdoors with my husband and our two sons.

"July 4th weekend, 1986- I loaded up my Honda Civic and came from Pennsylvania to join a Podiatry group in Jacksonville. I started by seeing patients in the nursing home, then the group decided to open a satellite clinic. The old office was between Aardvark and Ice Castles. Eventually, it got so busy, I picked up and came out full-time." Dr. Coleman
