PROFILE - Meet Macey Terrell, President of the Navicent Health Foundation and a dedicated member of the United Way of Central Georgia Board of Directors.
Throughout her career, Macey has seen firsthand what can happen when philanthropy, strong leadership and a commitment to community come together. Whether helping strengthen access to quality healthcare or supporting families working toward greater financial stability, she believes lasting progress requires all of us working together.
Here’s how Macey answered our community profile questions:
1) As President of the Navicent Health Foundation, what is something people may not understand about the role philanthropy plays in strengthening healthcare across our region?
As President of Navicent Health Foundation, it is important that our Foundation continues leading the way in improving healthcare throughout central Georgia. Navicent Health Foundation is the primary philanthropic partner for Atrium Health Navicent and our partnership is vital to ensuring our healthcare system continues providing quality healthcare FOR ALL. Philanthropy allows the hospital to underwrite charity care, provide this community with a wonderful Children's Hospital that offers programs and services that would otherwise not be funded, and the continuous investment of state-of-the-art lifesaving technology and equipment, to name a few examples! Our Foundation's success is due to the many years of cultivated trusting relationships for the common good- improving healthcare. Our commitment to philanthropy invested locally and maintained locally is one we continue to uphold for our central Georgia community.
2) What challenges, mentors or defining experiences have most influenced your professional journey, and how have they shaped the leader you are today?
As a young leader, I have been blessed by the many professionals I have met along my professional journey who have taken the time to pour into my life and career development. I would advise finding yourself a few good mentors- those with 30+ years of professional lived experience! Always do the next right thing, no matter how hard the decision may be, and treat people the way you would want to be treated.
3) Through your service on the United Way of Central Georgia board, what have you learned about the needs facing local ALICE families, and why do you believe collaboration is essential to creating lasting change?
Through my involvement with United Way, I have learned that the ALICE program is representative of many families throughout Central Georgia. Nonprofits exist to fill the gaps, and no one organization can meet the need alone. It will take a united community to rally to help meet the need. We have some incredibly generous individuals, corporations, and Foundations in central Georgia. I have no doubt that we can make a significant impact on the lives of these ALICE families together!
