Kids are often more willing to taste foods they helped grow themselves! What a rewarding experience to pick and learn about a food you grew!

Using neutral, descriptive language (e.g., crunchy, juicy, smooth, bumpy, sweet, sour) helps children learn about foods on an even playing field. They can discover for themselves which foods they enjoy and which foods they are still learning about. Gardening gives endless opportunities to build a rich food vocabulary.

Biting fresh cucumbers, chewing leafy greens, or sipping smoothies made from garden produce can support chewing and oral coordination (with the support of feeding strategies provided by your childโs feeding therapist).

Children can help wash vegetables, tear lettuce, stir ingredients, or build simple snacks and meals using foods they grew themselves. Being part of the cooking process increases exposure, confidence, and interest in trying new foods.
