Freshmen Parents: Please Read. We’ve entered the Red Zone on college campuses. According to RAINN, 50% of college sexual assaults are reported in August, September, October, and November, spiking every year at the start of fall semester and lasting through Thanksgiving break, and first-year students face the highest risk.

If you're a parent, this is a good week to check in with your student, not about grades, just about how they're doing and who they'd call if something happened.

If you're a student, know this: most assaults are committed by someone the victim already knows, not a stranger. Trust your gut, watch out for your friends, and don't be afraid to interrupt a situation that looks off.
