Welcome to the end of the school year, from Angie Rademaker, MS, LPC/ SUD.

This month, I’d like to talk about life transitions during this Springtime. Some people are finishing middle school and heading to high school, some are finishing high school and heading to college, and others are looking at finishing college and moving on to their careers.

Transition times in life can be difficult. They seem to increase anxiety due to the unknown ahead. Let me help work you through these transition times with a nonjudgmental and supportive view.

Some tips that can help during these times:
- See if you can take a tour of your class schedule in the new building.
- Set up group chats with your friends to support one another through these times.
- Make sure you are getting enough sleep and eating well balanced meals.
- Talk with a friend, parent, or counselor about your fears, you will be surprised that you are not alone.

I work with clients 12+ to navigate trauma, anxiety, first responder stress, depression, and more. I often use BrainSpotting ( a brain based therapy) to heal traumas and help clients to move forward. I also teach techniques to help with the anxiety.

Supporting Identity, Connection, and Growth with Lauren Gordon, LPC

In times of uncertainty and change, creating a space where young people feel seen, supported, and safe is more important than ever.
As a child and adolescent therapist, I am deeply committed to providing affirming, inclusive care for LGBTQIA+ youth. I strive to offer a space where identity is honored, voices are heard, and emotional safety is always a priority. Every young person deserves the chance to explore who they are without fear and to build a strong sense of trust and belonging.

Using a compassionate, attachment-focused approach, I help children and teens strengthen emotional regulation, build healthy communication skills, and develop resilience in the face of stress and life transitions. Together, we work to better understand emotions, navigate relationships, and practice expressing needs and boundaries in healthy ways.

Even during challenging times, healing and connection are possible, and no young person has to face it alone. 💛

Get to know Allison Ommodt, LPC

I enjoy working with individuals ages 10 and up to explore all areas of their lives. I use a variety of approaches, including CBT, Motivational Interviewing, EMDR, Parts Work, Attachment Work, and Mindfulness, along with psychoeducation to help clients better understand themselves and their experiences.

I work with a diverse range of clients, including neurodivergent individuals, adoptive families, first responders, clients navigating or processing divorce, individuals processing trauma, members of the LGBTQIA+ community, and more.

Outside of therapy, I love reading, exploring my artistic side, spending time with my many animals, going thrifting, and enjoying quality time with my kids.

Getting to Know Your Inner Dragons with Nathaniel Willkomm, LPC

Taking a quick survey of my office, there are 14 dragons visible from my desk. There are even more packed away in miniature cases, drawn in sketchbooks, and lurking in my RPG sourcebooks. And of course, there are the ones that live rent-free in my brain at all times, so the real total may be well into the hundreds.

Sometimes dragons are inspiring protectors that shield us from harm. Other times they feel like fearsome monsters that haunt us. Either way, taking the time to stop and “chat” with our inner dragons can help make life brighter and more fulfilling. Even the most terrifying monsters of our subconscious are often just scared, sad, or misunderstood, and need to be nurtured, not slain.

I love helping clients ages 12+ explore the different parts within themselves (dragons or otherwise). When those parts are burdened by trauma, we work together to help them heal and find relief.

Finding Your Way Back to You with Anthony Hying, LCSW

Ever feel like your emotions are a stormy sea and you’re just trying to keep your head above water? Whether it’s the heavy weight of depression, the racing heartbeat of anxiety, or recurring conflicts that leave you feeling disconnected from the people you love, it can be exhausting.

If you’re a teen navigating the chaos of growing up, or an adult trying to balance it all while feeling like something is “off,” you don’t have to do this alone.

My work is rooted in the belief that you already have the inner strength to heal, sometimes you just need a specialized toolkit to help you find it. Together, we may use:
• Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT): Practical, in-the-moment skills to manage intense emotions and break the cycle of crisis
• Mindfulness: Learning to be present without judgment and turning down the volume on the “what-ifs”
• Relationship-focused work: Building communication skills that actually work and help repair connection

Beyond day-to-day tools, therapy can be a safe space to explore the roots of your experiences. Whether you’re processing trauma or looking at how attachment patterns from your past show up in your present, we move at your pace.

“You can’t stop the waves, but you can learn to surf.” - Jon Kabat-Zinn

Healing isn’t about being perfect, it’s about being present. Let’s build a life that feels worth living: one where you feel steady, connected, and truly seen.

Olivia Kaltved, LPC-IT says self-care isn’t a luxury - it’s essential.

In the middle of busy schedules, responsibilities, and constant demands, it’s easy to put yourself last. But your mental and emotional well-being deserve attention, too. Taking time to rest, reflect, and recharge isn’t selfish, it’s how you show up as your best self for the people and things that matter most.

Self-care looks different for everyone. Maybe it’s setting boundaries, getting outside for fresh spring air, talking things through in therapy, or simply giving yourself permission to slow down and enjoy the little things in life.

If you’ve been feeling overwhelmed, you’re not alone, and you don’t have to navigate it by yourself. As a therapist serving individuals in all stages of life, I’m here to support you in building healthier habits, coping strategies, and a life that feels more balanced.

You deserve care, too. 🌿

Welcome to April from Angie Rademaker, MS, LPC!

This month, I’d like to talk about breaking the stigma around mental health for first responders.

First responders spend their days in high-stress environments, moving from one crisis to the next. Often, they have to push down what they’ve seen in order to move on to the next call.

Historically, there has been significant stigma around seeking mental health support in the first responder community. Thankfully, this is starting to change. More first responders in the Madison area are reaching out for support and talking openly about the things they experience on the job.

If you are a first responder who is trying to work through difficult calls, intrusive memories, flashbacks, or nightmares, please know you are not alone. There are counselors who understand your work and are here to help. My colleagues and I are passionate about supporting first responders as they heal and continue doing the important work they do every day.

I work with clients ages 12+ to navigate trauma, anxiety, first responder stress, depression, and more. I often use Brainspotting, a brain-based therapy that helps process and heal trauma so clients can move forward.
