Finding glimmers in the small moments can do great things for our mental health!

Everyone talks about triggers.
Not enough people talk about glimmers.

They’re small moments that help your nervous system feel a little safer.
A little calmer.
It might be quiet.
Fresh air.
Music you love.
A person you feel safe around.

Nothing big. Nothing complicated.
Just small things your nervous system recognizes as “okay.”

They’re easy to miss.
When you’re in survival mode, your brain is wired to focus on what feels wrong or unsafe.

But once you start noticing glimmers, you realize they’re there more often than you thought.
And paying attention to them can help you understand what your system needs to come back to calm.

Embracing the power of “no” isn’t about becoming negative or closed off.

“No” is not a rejection of a person. It’s a decision about a specific request or situation. It’s about creating a life that reflects your true priorities and values. It’s about preserving your energy for what truly matters.

And ultimately, it’s about being able to give your fullest “yes” to the things that light you up and bring you joy.

Want more support for your child or parenting? We can help with that! Check us out at www.christiancounselingmadison.com to find out more and connect with one of our providers.

Many parents recognise the arguments about screens.

What we often don’t see is how they begin.

Screen dependence rarely develops overnight. It usually starts with a child discovering that a screen helps them feel calmer, less anxious, less bored or more in control. Over time, the brain learns to rely on that feeling.

When we understand why screens have become so important, we can support children in ways that build connection and regulation, rather than simply taking the device away.

What happened to you was not your fault. But healing from it is your responsibility, and no one can do that part for you.

That’s not blame. That’s the path back to your power.
