Dear Santosha Community
It is with a heavy heart that we share the news today of the passing of a truly remarkable soul and beloved senior teacher; Bobby Clennell. Bobby was a cornerstone of the Iyengar yoga community, and her loss is felt deeply by all of us here at Santosha Yoga Studio.
Bobby's journey was rich with creativity and passion. Born and raised in London, she graduated from the prestigious St London School of Fashion in 1961 and later pursued graphic design and illustration at the Martin's School of Art.
Her relationship with yoga began in 1973 when she and her husband, Lindsey, attended their first Iyengar yoga class. This spark quickly became a lifelong dedication. In 1975, Bobby and Lindsey taveled to Pune, India to study directly under B.K.S. Iyengar: The impact of Mr. Iyengar's teaching was both transformative and enduring, shaping the rest of her life's work.
Bobby was certified to teach in 1977. Years later; in 1989, life brought her family across the Atlantic to New York. By 1994, Bobby began teaching at the newly formed Ivengar Yoga Institute of New York, embarking on decades of sharing her immense wisdom, grace, and artistry with countless students.
We at Santosha were incredibly fortunate to have Bobby share her deep knowledge, beautiful spirit and loving kindness with our community. Her teaching was known for its vitality, precision and warmth. She brought a unique blend of artistic vision, insightful devotion to her teaching.
We extend our deepest condolences, love, and support to Lindsey; Miles, Jake, and all of Bobby's family, friends, and students during this difficult time.
Details regarding a memorial or celebration of Bobby's life will be shared as they become available. Let us carry her memory, her teachings, and her vibrant spirit with us on our mats.
