Kelly has been a Peak client for a couple years now and boy is she PEAKING! Kelly has been putting in some amazing work and ran a 1:29 half marathon which is an all time PR for her! 🥳

What Is Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport (RED-S)?

RED-S occurs when the body consistently does not take in enough energy to support both exercise and normal physiological function.

This can happen intentionally or unintentionally—and it affects both male and female athletes.

Common signs include:
• Chronic fatigue
• Recurrent injuries
• Poor recovery
• Irregular or missed menstrual cycles
• Weight loss
• Decreased performance

Over time, RED-S can impact bone health, hormones, metabolism, cardiovascular health, and overall well-being.

From a physical therapy perspective, RED-S can significantly slow healing and increase injury risk. If the underlying issue isn’t addressed, recovery can be difficult despite appropriate rehab.

Core Strength for Runners 🏃‍♀️

⏱️ Time required: ~10 minutes

📋 You’ll need: a mat

💪 Repeat the following circuit 3 times:

-Donkey toes (20 reps total)
-Moving bear plank (20 steps forward, 20 steps backward)
-Hip airplane (8 each side)

Some things to note:

🚗 Parking: You may use the Peak Endurance assigned spots in the parking lot. If you plan to stay and play on W***y Street after your appointment, please move your car so other clients may park. There is additional 2-hour parking on S. Blount St.

🕵️‍♀️ How to find us: We are on the 2nd floor. Take the elevator or stairs and head down the hall (toward Fine Point Consulting). Our door is on the left. Bathrooms and bubbler are down the hall, past our door. Access code for bathrooms is 4640.

👟 Please help us keep our space clean by bringing a pair of clean, dry shoes to your appointment.

How to Do a Bulgarian Split Squat — 3 Ways, 3 Different Goals

The Bulgarian split squat is one of the best single-leg exercises for runners and active adults — but the “right” form depends on what you’re trying to accomplish.

You can modify it to:

• Build glute strength and improve side-to-side stability
• Strengthen tight quads in a lengthened position
• Improve hip flexor control to help with IT band or front-of-hip pain

Small changes in weight distribution, torso angle, and back leg height completely change the training effect.

If you’ve been doing them without a clear intention, you may not be getting the benefit you want.
