We can’t say it enough: Not only does strength training reduce the risk of injury, but also it improves running performance. 🙂‍↕️

Fall/winter is a great time to bust out those dumbells! 💪

You know we love a good long run, but if we’re skipping out on speed work (🙋‍♀️), we’re missing out on molecular changes in the bloodstream that are associated with improved cardiovascular health, metabolic changes, and fat regulation.

There’s evidence these changes can be achieved with VERY minimal time commitment—as few as two sprints totaling 40 seconds 🤯

🌰 It’s walnut season—which also means ankle-rolling season!

If you’ve ever stepped on a walnut while out for a run, you know how quickly a normal morning can turn into an ankle injury.

Jennifer put together a quick Ankle Roll 101 to help you know what to do after rolling or spraining your ankle.

The blog covers:

How to manage swelling with elevation and compression
Gentle ankle range-of-motion exercises
How to begin activating the ankle muscles
Balance and proprioception exercises
When you should consider having your ankle evaluated

If you’ve recently rolled your ankle—or just want to be prepared for the next sneaky sidewalk walnut—check out the full blog at the link below!

🏃‍♀️ And remember to watch your step out there! 🌰

You heard right! It has been shown that when your jaw is clenched, your core and pelvic floor are likely overactive as well. So unclench those teeth and give these pelvic floor relaxation positions a try 🙂‍↕️

10-15 deep breaths should do the trick 🙂

Try this march variation. It requires single-leg stability, thoracic rotation, and overhead extension. A great way to warm everything up before whatever strength session you have planned! 🔥

Running downhill puts more force on the knees, which could lead to knee discomfort. However, running uphill actually shifts force to the hips and away from the knees, so uphill running is often better tolerated on sore knees than flats 👍
