There’s a lot to be proud of in Wisconsin. Add orthopedic care at UW Health to the list. U.S. News & World Report ranked UW Health orthopedics No. 1 in Wisconsin.

Recognition like this comes back to the people doing the work. We’re proud of the teams whose expertise and commitment make it possible.

Sixty years of transplants. Thousands of lives changed. One incredible community.

On Sept. 20, we came together to celebrate 60 years of transplant and living donation at UW Health.
The room was filled with recipients, living donors, families, care teams and colleagues whose lives have been connected through transplant. There were joyful reunions, new introductions and stories shared between people who understand just how meaningful the gift of life can be.

For six decades, transplant has been about more than medicine. It’s about generosity. Connection. Second chances. And the people who make each one possible.

We are grateful to everyone who has been part of this remarkable 60-year journey and honored to continue it together.

Packers vs. Cancer has a new teammate: UW Health. We’re joining the Green Bay Packers as presenting partner for the campaign’s 10th season.

We’re bringing fans together to support people affected by cancer and help fund research into rare and complex cancers at UW Health | Carbone Cancer Center.

For every Packers vs. Cancer hat sold, $5 goes directly to Carbone Cancer Center. You can also make a gift. Learn how to support the campaign: https://uw.health/4rDEJgV

Andy Morales Plata was just 3 years old when his family moved from Mexico to Madison, Wisconsin. While he struggled in school, if Andy heard the words “program” or “club,” he wanted to be there. Those spaces helped him find focus and discover his life’s purpose: creating conditions where people can thrive.

Andy has dedicated more than 1,700 hours to community service, supporting non-profit and faith organizations across Madison. He also shares his journey with young people, showing how resources, support systems and caring mentors can help them navigate the challenges of growing up in a low-income or undocumented household.

Among his many mentorship roles, Andy serves as lead coordinator of Escalera, Centro’s program for high school students. He says the program gave him space to breathe, be himself and recharge no matter what was happening at home or school. In addition to helping students explore their goals and future opportunities, whether college or another path, Andy helps them build resilience and skills they need to flourish.

A University of Wisconsin–Madison graduate, Andy is now pursuing a master’s degree in public health through the University of Michigan. As he works to build a fulfilling life, he surrounds himself with people who inspire him through art, fashion, culture, climbing, food and music. That outlook shapes both how he lives and how he serves others.

“I'm excited to take this ethos that life has developed for me and see how it applies to whatever spaces I find myself in next,” Andy says. “I hope to continue being of service to people and helping make our human experience feel a little more whole and fulfilling.”

UW Health has supported Centro Dane County for many years, and we are proud to elevate the voices and experiences of members of our community like Andy during Latinx Heritage Month (September 15-October 15).

What an unforgettable night.

At Thursday’s Wisconsin Volleyball game, Mary Kay took the court as an honorary captain. She lives every day with a rare genetic disorder that has brought kidney cancer, the loss of an eye and countless challenges along the way.

Through it all, she continues to make an impact on those around her with her resilience, positivity and gratitude.

We were honored to celebrate Mary Kay and share this special experience with her family and loved ones. Thank you, Mary Kay, for inspiring everyone who had the privilege of being part of this memorable night.

Living donors make thousands of transplants possible each year, but their stories aren't always heard. At our Living Donor Recognition Event, we asked donors why they chose to donate.

Which answer surprised you most? Or what's one question you've always had about living organ donation?
