What if your anxiety isn't the problem?

What if it's actually evidence that your nervous system has been working incredibly hard to protect you?

Many of the patterns we struggle with, such as anxiety, hypervigilance, perfectionism, emotional numbness, people pleasing, or shutting down, are not signs that something is wrong with us. They were developed as intelligent adaptations that helped us survive during events that overwhelmed our capacities.

The challenge is that survival strategies don't always know when the danger has passed. They continue operating until the nervous system has new experiences that teach it something different.

This is why I don't believe healing begins by asking, "What's wrong with me?"
It begins by asking, "How did my nervous system adapt, and what does it need now?"

You are not broken.
Your body has been doing its very best to protect you.

The beautiful news is that the nervous system is capable of change. With practice, support, and the right conditions, we can build capacity, experience greater regulation, and begin responding to life from the present rather than from old survival patterns.

That is the work we'll be practicing together beginning September 8 in Somatic Skills for Anxiety and Mental Wellness: Cultivating Embodied Consciousness.

I would love to have you join us.

Warmth, Amy

P.S. If you’re interested in working with me 1:1, I occasionally have openings in my Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy Program. Link in the chat as well.

One of the greatest misconceptions about conflict is that it begins "out there

Often, conflict begins within us.

When our nervous system is activated, our perception changes. We become more likely to interpret uncertainty as danger, disagreement as rejection, and difference as threat. We lose access to curiosity and begin reacting from old survival strategies instead of responding from the present moment.

We don't see the world as it is. We see the world through the state of our nervous system.

This doesn't mean the challenges around us aren't real. It means that the quality of our response depends upon the state of the body we're responding from.

This is why healing is not simply about feeling better. It's about seeing more clearly, relating more honestly, and responding more intentionally.

Inner conflict inevitably shapes our outer world.

The more coherent we become within ourselves, the more coherence we bring to our relationships, our families, and our communities.

This is the work we'll be practicing together beginning September 8 in Somatic Skills for Anxiety and Mental Wellness: Cultivating Embodied Consciousness. Find the sign up link in the chat.

I hope you'll join us!

Dear friends,
This work matters more now than ever.

Over the past week, many of us have watched heartbreaking events unfold in our own community. Moments like these remind us of something deeply human:

When people, organizations, and communities lose the capacity to regulate under pressure, everyone feels the impact.

Conversations become more polarized, fear spreads quickly, and grief, anger, confusion, and helplessness ripple through the collective nervous system.

While we cannot control every circumstance around us, we can become more accountable for the state of our own nervous systems. That doesn't replace the need to hold our leaders and institutions accountable. It strengthens our ability to do so with clarity, courage, and integrity.

Every one of us contributes something to the relational field. We bring our physiology into every conversation, family gathering, workplace, and community engagement.

The question is not whether we influence the world around us.
The question is: What are we bringing into it?

Learning to regulate your nervous system is not simply a personal wellness practice. It is one of the most practical ways we can interrupt cycles of fear, reactivity, and division.

We cannot eliminate suffering, but we can strengthen our capacity to remain present without shutting down or becoming overwhelmed. As our emotional capacity grows, so does our ability to respond with compassion, discernment, and integrity in every moment.

This is why I believe this work matters now more than ever.

Beginning September 8, I'll be guiding my 8-week experiential course, Somatic Skills for Anxiety and Mental Wellness: Cultivating Embodied Consciousness.

Together, we'll build practical, evidence-informed skills that help us respond instead of react and cultivate the kind of presence our world needs.

If this resonates, I'd love to have you join us.

Dear Friends,

Conflict is inevitable in human relationships. No matter how conscious or committed we are, there will be moments when we feel triggered, defensive, overwhelmed, or withdrawn. What determines long term relational stability is not whether activation occurs, but how skillfully and consistently we return from it.

Repair is not a personality trait that some people simply have and others do not. It is a learned capacity.

When the nervous system has greater regulation and , it can recognize escalation earlier. It can pause before words harden. It can soften after defensiveness. It can return to steadiness more quickly and with less shame.

Without repair, conflict accumulates quietly, resentment builds, and distance widens. Over time, even small ruptures can erode trust.

With repair, something different unfolds. Trust deepens, safety strengthens, and relationships become more durable, because both people know that disconnection is not the end of the story.

Somatic Experiencing practices build this capacity from the inside out. As we strengthen the nervous system’s ability to regulate under stress, we increase flexibility, emotional range, and relational resilience. We do not eliminate activation, rather we expand our ability to move through it.

Beginning April 22, you will learn the foundational skills that strengthen nervous system capacity, allowing you to show up in relationship with yourself and with others with greater presence, steadiness, and integrity. This will not remain a concept you understand intellectually, but will become a lived and relational experience embodied in real time.
