When you meet Steph, it doesn’t take long to understand why she’s one of Meriter’s most awarded nurses.
Since joining UnityPoint Health - Meriter in 2013, Steph has been nominated for more than 24 DAISY Awards and received the prestigious award once. Those nominations have come directly from our postpartum patients and families who take time to recognize their nurses who went above and beyond during some of the most important moments of their lives.
As a postpartum nurse at Meriter, Steph combines expert clinical care with genuine compassion and attentiveness, helping new parents feel supported, respected and empowered to go home and take care of their growing family.
“I want everybody coming to postpartum to feel respected, heard, safe and empowered during this vulnerable time in their lives,” Steph said. “I will continue to pay attention (even to the little details) and anticipate needs involving as many hospital resources as needed to make their stay a positive and memorable one.”
Steph understands firsthand how overwhelming the transition to parenthood can be. She’s always strived to be a safe space for her patients – answering all their questions and taking time to listen without judgement. Her DAISY Award nominations are filled with stories of her kindness, expertise and gentle, caring nature. Steph was born to be a nurse.
But if you ask Steph about her successful career, she’ll quickly point to her teammates in Meriter’s Birthing Center.
“I’m a lifer,” Steph said. “I have grown so much as a nurse at Meriter with the help of many wonderful team members. I feel confident that I will stay with Meriter until I retire.”
