Some children are told off all day for things they genuinely cannot help.
“Pay attention.”
“I just told you.”
“Why do you never listen?”
“Stop being lazy.”
But imagine trying to hold 5 pieces of information in your mind while the world around you feels loud, distracting and overwhelming - then being expected to get everything right.
That is what weak working memory can feel like.
These children often forget instructions halfway through, lose track of tasks, seem distracted, struggle to finish work and get labelled as difficult or careless.
Over time, many stop believing they are smart at all.
A child who keeps forgetting is not always refusing to try. Sometimes their brain is simply overloaded.
