Matthew Churpek, MD, PhD, MPH, professor, Allergy, Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, is the recipient of a four-year $3.2 million renewal of an R01 grant from the National Heart, Lung, And Blood Institute of the National Institutes of Health for the project, "Using causal machine learning for personalized treatment recommendations in critically ill patients". We are proud to honor Sheri Lawrence, MBA, CMPE, chief administrative officer (CAO), who retires this week after 25 years in the department—with almost 18 of those as CAO!

Cardiovascular disease has become the leading cause of pregnancy-related illness and death in the United States over the last few decades. To help reverse that trend in WI, faculty from DOM and UW-Madison Obstetrics & Gynecology have launched the UW Health and UnityPoint Health-Meriter Hospital Cardio-Obstetrics Clinic, which provides multidisciplinary cardiovascular care to at-risk patients before, during, and after pregnancy.
