When you’re taking care of everyone else, it’s very easy to forget about YOU.

A woman came into my office recently while caring for her daughter after surgery.

She looked exhausted.

And it reminded me how often I see this with caregivers.

When someone you love needs you, your own needs move to the bottom of the list. You worry. You lose sleep. You skip meals or exercise. You cancel appointments. You tell yourself, “I’ll take care of me when things settle down.”

But prolonged physical and emotional stress can keep your nervous system spending too much time in that fight-or-flight state.

Your body also needs opportunities to shift toward rest, recovery and repair.

That doesn’t require disappearing to a spa for three days. It might mean taking a walk. Eating a real meal. Getting to bed. Breathing deeply for a few minutes. Keeping your own health appointment. Asking someone else for help.

Taking care of yourself while caring for someone else isn’t selfish. It helps you continue to show up for the people who need you.

Don’t forget to take care of YOU, too. ❤️

Your mattress may be the thing nobody has asked you about.

I’ve seen this repeatedly in practice: someone improves, but the same back, hip or sciatic symptoms keep creeping back in.

Sometimes the missing piece isn’t another exercise or treatment. It’s what their body is lying on for 7–8 hours every night.

And “it’s new” doesn’t automatically mean “it’s right for me.”

Mattress firmness, support, sleep position, toppers and how your body settles overnight can all matter.

If something keeps coming back, sometimes you have to look beyond where it hurts and ask what you’re repeatedly exposing your body to.

Your daily habits matter—even the ones you do while you’re asleep.

Well…I did a thing. 😂🍞
Behold—my FIRST loaf of homemade sourdough!
Clearly, I was entirely too proud of myself and photographic evidence was required. 😂
I’ve wanted to try this for a while, and apparently I finally decided that keeping a sourdough starter alive was a responsibility I was ready for.
One thing I talk about a lot is that healthy living doesn’t have to mean complicated, perfect—or giving up everything you enjoy.
Sometimes it’s simply getting back to real food, learning something new, using your hands and slowing down enough to enjoy the process.
Was my first loaf perfect? Nope.
Did I eat some warm with butter? You bet I did. 😂
Healthy living should still include LIVING!
And I have a feeling loaf #2 won’t be far behind. 🍞❤️

A reminder I needed today - maybe you do too.
On my way to the office this morning, I passed a family standing quietly as a loved one was being placed into a hearse.
I don’t know their story, but it stopped me for a moment.
We spend so much of life rushing, planning and telling ourselves we’ll do things later - take better care of ourselves, make the trip, call someone we love, slow down and enjoy what we’ve worked so hard to build.
But none of us knows exactly how much “later” we have.
To me, healthy aging isn’t simply about living longer. It’s about having the strength, health and freedom to fully participate in the life you’re given.
Walk the trail. Take the trip. Play with your grandchild. Dance at the wedding. Call your parents. Tell your people you love them.
Take care of the body carrying you through this life - and don’t forget to actually live it. Make today count. ❤

Shoulder pain isn’t always a shoulder problem.🤔
One of the most common things I see is people focusing only on where it hurts.
If you’re active, lifting weights, playing pickleball or golf, or simply reaching overhead and your shoulder hurts, don’t forget about your neck.
The nerves that control the shoulder and arm begin in the neck, and restrictions or irritation there can contribute to pain, weakness, numbness, or limited movement. The shoulder is also part of a larger movement system—when one area isn’t moving well, another often compensates.
That’s why I don’t just look at the painful area. I look at how your body is working together.
Sometimes treating the shoulder is only part of the solution.
💬 Have you ever had shoulder pain that turned out to be coming from somewhere else?

“Every day, in every way, I am getting better and better.”
I say it when I feel strong—and when I don’t. Because the words we repeat become the direction we move.
It may sound simple, but it certainly beats rehearsing everything that’s wrong.
Speak to yourself like someone worth encouraging. Your mind is always listening. 💙

The smoke may be outside...but your body still has to deal with it.
When wildfire smoke moves into our area, our lungs—and the rest of our body—can experience increased oxidative stress and inflammation.
A few simple ways to support your body:
💧 Hydrate well.
🥗 Eat colorful fruits and vegetables rich in antioxidants.
👃 Use a saline nasal rinse after spending time outdoors.
🏡 Keep windows closed and run a HEPA air purifier if you have one.
🚿 If you’ve been outside for a while, change your clothes and take a quick shower to wash away smoke particles from your skin and hair.
🏃 Skip strenuous outdoor exercise until the air quality improves.
😴 Prioritize sleep—your body does much of its repair and recovery overnight.
You can’t eliminate every exposure, but you can give your body the tools it needs to recover.
Take care of your lungs today...your future self will thank you. ❤️

🥵➡️🥶 Feeling unusually tired this week? You’re not imagining it.
Just one week ago, temperatures were over 100°F.
Yesterday, they were in the 60s.
That’s a huge change, and your body needs time to adapt.
Here’s something we often forget...
When the weather changes dramatically, your body is constantly working behind the scenes to maintain balance.
Animals instinctively slow down, seek shade, or rest when conditions become extreme.
We, on the other hand, often expect ourselves to push through like it’s just another day.
If you’re feeling more tired than usual this week...
💧 Stay hydrated.
🧂 If appropriate for you, replenish electrolytes.
😴 Prioritize good sleep.
🩵 Give yourself permission to slow down for a day or two.
Sometimes fatigue isn’t a sign that something is wrong.
Sometimes it’s simply your body asking for a little grace while it adapts.
Listen to it.
You’ll be feeling like yourself again before you know it. 🌿

💧 Water isn’t always the whole story.
One of my patients, a wonderful woman in her 70s, had been struggling with headaches almost every night for nearly two years.
She relied on Excedrin just to function.
Chiropractic adjustments helped, but the headaches kept returning.
Then we made one simple change...
We focused on hydration and electrolytes.
She started adding a small amount of coconut water and a pinch of Celtic sea salt as part of her hydration routine.
Since then?
She hasn’t experienced the headaches that had become part of her daily life.
Does this mean everyone with headaches is dehydrated?
Of course not.
Headaches have many possible causes, which is why it’s important to look at the whole person rather than assume there’s one answer.
But this is a great reminder that sometimes the basics matter more than we think.
If you’re drinking plenty of water but still not feeling your best, it may be worth looking at how well you’re replacing electrolytes, especially if you’re active, spending time in the heat, or sweating regularly.
Small changes can sometimes make a big difference.
Have you ever noticed a positive change after improving your hydration?
I’d love to hear about it in the comments. 💙
