The moment you realize being nervous on stage is often about focusing too much on yourself.

What if I mess up? What if they judge me? What if I fail?

But you’re not on that stage for YOU.

You’re there to serve, inspire, educate, or impact someone else.

When you shift your focus from how you’re being perceived to who you’re there to serve, fear loses its power.

Stop asking, “What will they think of me?”

Start asking, “Who might need to hear what I have to say?”

You're not there to be admired. You're there to make a difference.

Purpose over ego. Service over fear.

Congratulations to Carbon World Health Co-Founder Dr. Nestor Rodriguez — a 2026 Yo Soy Honoree!

We’re incredibly proud to share that Dr. Nestor Rodriguez has been selected as one of four 2026 Yo Soy honorees by the Latino Professionals Association of Greater Madison.

The Yo Soy recognition celebrates individuals whose leadership, service, and care for others are making a meaningful impact throughout Greater Madison; people who honor their roots, open doors for others, and help strengthen our community.

For Dr. Rodriguez, this recognition carries special meaning. Born in El Salvador and raised in South Central Los Angeles after immigrating to the United States, his journey ultimately brought him to Wisconsin, where he became an emergency medicine physician, educator, entrepreneur, and co-founder of Carbon World Health alongside Ashley Rodriguez.

His relationship with the Latino Professionals Association also goes back many years, including serving on the organization’s board earlier in its development.

We’re proud to see his commitment to medicine, mentorship, entrepreneurship, and community recognized alongside fellow 2026 honorees Karen Menéndez Coller, Gloria Castillo Posada, and Andrea Muñiz Ortega.

This week, Ashley and I are heading to Redondo Beach together to represent Carbon World Health at THRIVE South Bay.

And we’re actually bringing two very different conversations to the room.

Ashley will be joining a panel and sharing some of what we’ve learned building Carbon from helping busy people move beyond “I know I need to prioritize my health” to actually taking consistent action, to creating an experience where people genuinely feel seen and supported.

She’ll also be talking about something we live every day:

Building a business with your spouse.

We’ve had to learn how to define our roles, trust each other’s strengths, disagree without allowing every disagreement to become personal, and remember that we’re building both a company and a life together.

Then I’ll be taking the stage with a very different conversation; one centered around women’s health, hormones, aging and why feeling “normal” isn’t necessarily the same thing as feeling well.

Different conversations. Same underlying belief:

More is possible.

What does leadership cost the body?

We talk a lot about the mental and emotional demands of leadership. We talk much less about the physical toll, the warning signs we ignore, the years of pushing through, and what happens when our bodies finally force us to pay attention.

Dr. Rodriguez is grateful to join this group of leaders at the Madison365 365 Leadership Summit for “What the Body Carries.”

As an ER physician, Dr. Rodriguez often meet people at the point where the body can no longer compensate. That perspective has shaped much of how he thinks about prevention, longevity, and what it actually means to build a life and leadership that lasts.

Looking forward to a meaningful conversation on October 19 at the Center for Black Excellence & Culture.

What has success actually cost you?

That question from my conversation with Dr. Tracy Gapin goes far beyond medicine.

Achievement can create opportunity, freedom and impact. It can also quietly consume sleep, relationships, health and presence if we never stop to define what success is supposed to serve.

The goal isn't less ambition. It's building success without losing yourself in the process.
