💡 We know navigating health guidelines and appointment schedules can feel overwhelming, especially during busy or stressful seasons. Every child’s path is unique.

Such an important reminder - that challenging behaviors are a normal, healthy part of brain development in the 0–3 window.

Caregivers and parents need science-backed understanding - not judgment - when navigating these big developmental leaps.

At BLOOM, we ground our Care Plan and resources in early neurodevelopment to support adults in providing calm, nurturing care through every stage.

Toddlers are still learning how to communicate, so their behavior often speaks louder than their words. Between ages 1 and 3, they're learning to express emotions, test boundaries, explore their world, and become more independent. That's why it's completely normal to see:

- Frequent use of the word "no"
- Big reactions to changes in routine
- Tantrums when they're tired, overwhelmed, or can't express what they need
- Clinginess during separation or in new situations
- Defiance as they learn where the boundaries are

These behaviors aren't signs that something is wrong. They're part of healthy brain development.

🧠✨ BLOOM's on board with Rethinking Screen Time -
It’s About Connection, Not Just Consumption and Content

Share this infographic with anyone looking after your little ones because
BLOOM acknowledges that going completely screen-free isn't always possible.

As parents, it’s easy to feel guilty whenever our little ones look at a screen. We know that speech and language development completely accelerates during the first 3 years of life, and we’ve all heard warnings about how too much device exposure can limit conversational exchange.

The good news? The latest pediatric insights show that how we manage that screen time can turn it into a tool for growth.

This infographic breaks down three powerful ways to shift the dynamic:

1️⃣ Viewing Screens Together: Turn passive watching into a conversation. Asking questions like, "What animal do you think that is?" gives your baby a chance to interact and learn new words.

2️⃣ Monitoring Content: Look for media that talks directly to children, labels colors, or names objects and feelings.

3️⃣ Limiting & Boundary Setting: Balance is everything. Create device-free zones at home, encourage reading and play, and aim to keep screen time under 1 hour per day for kids under 6.

At BLOOM, we're right there in the living rooms of our caregivers and babies -modeling exactly how to turn screen moments into interactive, language-rich spaces. We're also guiding families to set up healthy, physical boundaries in their homes that protect unstructured play and sleep.

Navigating the digital age with little ones is HARD and we're here to support - exactly where life happens.

"I only turned my back for a second." It is a phrase every parent of a 0 to 3-year-old has said or thought. Between learning to crawl and mastering the toddler sprint, our little ones move incredibly fast - and they are naturally drawn to water.

Did you know that nearly 70% of toddler drownings actually happen during non-swim time? 💔

Our littlest ones don't understand that a pool is dangerous; they just see a sparkling, fun place to explore. Because drowning is silent and can happen in less than two minutes, relying on supervision alone isn't enough. We need physical barriers to buy us time if a toddler slips out of the back door unnoticed.

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends a 4-sided isolation fence as your most critical line of defense. Whether you are auditing your own backyard or visiting grandparents and friends this summer, make sure the pool area checks these three safety boxes:
1️⃣ It needs to be at least 4 feet high. This is the minimum height required to keep determined, top-heavy toddlers from tumbling over the top.
2️⃣ It must be completely non-climbable. Check for horizontal slats, chain-link gaps, or nearby patio furniture that tiny feet can use as a makeshift ladder.
3️⃣ It must have a self-closing and self-latching gate. The gate should automatically swing shut and lock securely behind you every single time, with the latch placed well out of a toddler's reach.

An open pool is a magnet for a curious toddler. Let’s work together to create layers of protection to keep our littlest swimmers safe this summer. 💦

👉 Parents, grandparents, and caregivers: Have you checked the pool gates at the houses you are visiting this summer? Let us know if you have any backyard safety tips or questions in the comments below!

At BLOOM, we incorporate mental and emotional development into every one of our in-place interactions with infants and their families, so we are glad to see this reflected in AAP's new clinical report, "Framework for Approaching Healthy Mental and Emotional Development in Pediatrics.”

Supporting these foundations from the very first months of life matters deeply to us, and it's meaningful to see it recognized as the standard every child deserves. 💜🍼

AAP’s new clinical report, “Framework for Approaching Healthy Mental and Emotional Development in Pediatrics,” observes that more children are experiencing mental and emotional health concerns and specialized resources are often difficult to access.

In the report, the AAP recommends incorporating mental and emotional development into every pediatric visit, not just during times of concern. This can be accomplished through anticipatory guidance, surveillance, screening and brief interventions, and done in ways that are trauma-informed, equitable and free of bias. The report also highlights the value of collaboration with integrated health providers, schools and communities.

Most sleep-related infant deaths are preventable🍼😴

For Day 5 of our Safe Sleep Awareness campaign, we’re sharing some vital guidelines from the NIH (National Institutes of Health) "Safe to Sleep" program. It’s more than just "Back to Sleep"— it’s about creating a "bubble of safety" around your baby. 💜

3 Things the NIH Wants You to Know:

🍼 Breastfeeding Matters: Evidence from the NIH shows that feeding only human milk for the first 6 months provides the greatest protection against SIDS.

🍼 Skip the Gadgets: The NIH advises against using wedges, positioners, and heart monitors that claim to "prevent" SIDS. They aren't recommended and can actually be dangerous.

🍼 Stop Swaddling Early: According to safety standards, once your baby starts trying to roll over (usually around 3 months), it’s time to stop swaddling for their safety.

Take just a minute to scroll through the images below to update yourself and your village on these NIH-backed ways to keep our infants safe.

Check back at our past posts this week for more Safe Sleep tips and reminders.

Let's keep our "blooms" safe! 🌸
