Monroe County Prevention & Wellness Coalition

Monroe County Prevention & Wellness Coalition A primary prevention coalition mobilizing our community to reduce substance misuse in Monroe County. Providing education & resources for future generations.

Funded by TDMHSAS. The Monroe County Prevention & Wellness Coalition (PWC) is an alliance of organizations and people from all sectors of our community. For over a decade, the PWC has been effective in policy change, prevention programming, increased opportunities for positive health impact, and the overall reduction of risky behaviors. Although the priority of the PWC remains primary prevention,

our work has had a positive impact throughout the community in many other ways. The PWC has several substances that we address: alcohol (underage use), nicotine, prescription drugs, opioids (illicit) and stimulants, and marijuana/THC/derivatives. Under those areas of focus are several initiatives and programs such as community events like 'Smash the Stigma' Community Water Balloon Fight and the DEA Drug Take Back Day, youth clubs in the schools, overdose prevention training where you learn how to use and receive naloxone, training for businesses, community education, free medication drop boxes, parental education (particularly with our Revealed: A Hidden World trailer), training for teachers/school admin/law enforcement, alcohol awareness training for servers/restaurants that sell alcohol, and youth substance misuse classes within our schools, Boys & Girls Club, and juvenile program. We also work closely with local law enforcement on compliance checks and saturation patrols.

🚗 Monroe Rides Needs Volunteer Drivers!

Have a little time to spare and a heart for helping your neighbors? 💙

For many people in Monroe County, getting to an essential appointment isn’t as simple as hopping in the car. A lack of reliable transportation can mean missed medical appointments, delayed care, and unmet needs.

Monroe Rides is working to change that — one ride at a time.

We’re currently recruiting Volunteer Drivers who are willing to provide at least ONE ride per month to help local neighbors get where they need to go. You choose rides that work with your schedule, and mileage compensation is available while grant funds allow.

🚙 Just one ride.
⏰ A little of your time.
💙 A BIG difference for someone in our community.

Drivers must be 25+, have a valid driver’s license, safe driving record and auto insurance, and complete required background checks and training.

Ready to ride with us? Learn more or sign up at monroehealth.org or call 423-333-2246.

Please SHARE this post! The perfect volunteer driver may be someone in your circle who simply hasn’t been asked yet. 💙

💜 25 Years of Awareness. And We Still Need It.

For 25 years, International Overdose Awareness Day has helped shine a light on the devastating impact of overdose, honor the lives lost, and remind communities that prevention and support matter. But after 25 years, the need for awareness is still here.
Today, we remember those we’ve lost, stand with those who are grieving, and continue working toward a future where fewer families have to experience the pain of overdose.
Awareness saves lives. Compassion saves lives. Prevention saves lives. And together, we can keep the conversation going. 💜

Today, on International Overdose Awareness Day, we stop to remember that every single number represents a human life.

Behind the statistics are real people: our mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, daughters, sons, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and friends. They are our neighbors, coworkers, and loved ones. They matter, and their stories matter. 💜

While today is a day to honor those we’ve lost and wrap our arms around the families left behind, it is also a time to recognize the progress being made right here in Monroe County. Thanks to the collective work of local prevention, recovery efforts, and compassionate community members, preliminary data shows that overdose deaths in our county are continuing to decrease.

Prevention, support, and recovery resources are working, and lives are being saved.

Mitch Ingram Monroe County Mayor has officially proclaimed today, August 31, 2026, as International Overdose Awareness Day in Monroe County.

Let’s lead with compassion, reject stigma, and continue working together to support recovery for everyone in our community.
