“Grayson constantly demonstrates how much he cares about the visitors and patients that come into BHDM. He gives all the kids that come into the Emergency Department coloring books and crayons or a little pop-it toy. He does this of his own accord and with his own money without a second thought. He is always willing to go above and beyond to assist visitors in navigating the hospital and campus grounds. He approaches every interaction with professionalism, a positive attitude, and a welcoming smile. This month’s BEE Award winner is Stella White, Unit Secretary on Same Day Surgery.

A nomination from leadership stated:

“My 4-year-old daughter recently underwent surgery, and Stella was absolutely wonderful from the moment she brought us back to our room. She was kind, compassionate, and attentive, ensuring that all our family members had an opportunity to visit with my daughter both before and after her procedure.

After surgery, my daughter was having a difficult time drinking fluids. The only thing motivating her was the promise of a trip to Hobby Lobby afterward. Stella must have overheard our conversation because, as we were preparing to leave, she stopped us and gave my daughter some popsicles and even $5 of her own money to buy herself something special at Hobby Lobby.

Her kindness and generosity meant so much to our family during what was a stressful and emotional day. Stella went far beyond her job responsibilities to bring a smile to my daughter's face and make her feel special. Her compassion, thoughtfulness, and dedication to caring for others are truly remarkable. Stella was a blessing to our family, and we are incredibly grateful for the exceptional care and kindness she provided.”

This month’s Employee of the Month is Nicole Funkhouser, RN on Same Day Surgery.

A nomination from Leadership stated:

“Nicole had a post-operative patient who was required to remain non-weight-bearing on the surgical foot. After assessing the patient's stability with crutches and a walker, she determined that the patient would not be compliant with those methods due to his physical limitations. Dr. Estes was not available for further guidance, but Nicole persisted in looking for other alternatives that would promote compliance and healing.

The patient needed a wheelchair for home use but was unable to financially rent or purchase one. Case Management was contacted but was unable to assist due to a lack of insurance coverage. Nicole had the patient's best interests at heart and continued to pursue other options. She eventually located a wheelchair that had been donated to Dr. Donley for patient use. Dr. Donley delivered the wheelchair to Same Day Surgery so the patient could use it immediately upon discharge.

Dr. Estes complimented Nicole and the Same Day Surgery staff for their efforts in providing excellent care and resources to his patient. Nicole went above and beyond to ensure the patient had the equipment needed to promote safety, compliance with non-weight-bearing status, and healing of the operative extremity.”

This week's Employee Spotlight is Danielle Rogers, RN in PACU.

I began my career as an RN in June of 2013. I knew at a young age that I enjoyed caring for people and making people feel better. Being a nurse has been one of the most rewarding yet challenging aspects of my life.

I started working on 3 West, a cardiac/telemetry unit, and remained there until June 2025. My love for cardiology started in nursing school and only grew while working on 3 West, but after 12 years I needed some change and wanted to grow in my career. Currently I work in the PACU - Post-Anesthesia Care Unit, where we recover patients after surgery. I believe transferring to PACU has allowed me to grow as a nurse, from learning the different surgeries and aftermath of anesthesia to caring for more critical patients. I enjoy caring for patients as they are waking up from surgery to reassure them through their vulnerable state. I get joy from hearing them say "thank you for being so kind" or " thank you for all your help."

Other than my love for caring for people, my family motivates me to continue doing what I do. I am married to my high school sweetheart of 15 years and we have two boys ages 13 and 8 that keep me on my toes and make me strive to be a better person each and every day. Through all the obstacles, I can truly say I am very thankful to be a nurse and to bring a little bit of brightness to someone's day.

Kim Padilla, LPN with Baptist Health Deaconess Health at Home was recently honored as both Kentucky Caregiver of the Year and South Region Caregiver of the Year by CommonSpirit. The South Region consists of eight states from Texas to Ohio.

As a Licensed Practical Nurse, Kim consistently demonstrates exceptional compassion, professionalism, and dedication to the patients we serve. Kim is truly a bright and shining star in the lives of her patients. She goes above and beyond to meet not only their medical needs, but also their spiritual and emotional needs. Our Family Medicine team in the Hopkinsville clinic is growing so we are looking for an excellent Medical Assistant to add to the practice!

Job Summary: The Medical Assistant assists the staff and physician by collection of pertinent patient information needed to determine physical and psychological needs, address and identify health problems, performs selected treatments, diagnostic procedures and routine duties. The MA functions as a member of the healthcare team with responsibilities commensurate with training and demonstrated competencies. Direct patient care is provided to patients of all ages.

Minimum Education, Training and Experience Required:
A. High School Diploma or Equivalent required
B. Basic Life Support Certification required
C. Minimum two years of direct patient care experience preferred

Attention past NICU Parents:
It’s time to update our Madisonville Rotary Club Wall of Hope!

A parent whose baby requires care in the NICU, either due to premature birth or some other condition, goes through a wide range of emotions. Parents often feel helpless, hopeless, and sometimes undergo a prolonged period of uncertainty while their baby is in the NICU. Help us celebrate miracles and offer hope to the families we serve each year by sharing your story.

We will select the first 12 NICU graduates submitted for the updated display on the 7th floor of our hospital.

The deadline to submit is September 1st. For your child to be featured on the Rotary Wall of Hope, we will need:
• 2 or 3 photos of your child while in the NICU
• 2 or 3 current photos of your child
• Child's name, birth date and weight, as well as number of days spent in the NICU
• 2 or 3 examples of child’s current favorite hobbies/interests

With Pediatric services coming to our Powderly clinic location, we wanted to thank two organizations that helped to make this possible.

Our friends at the Felix E. Martin Jr. Foundation and the Heidi Badgett Fund generously supported our effort to bring Pediatric healthcare to Muhlenberg County, helping to fund the purchase of essential equipment, furniture, and décor that will make this place of healing feel welcoming to all children and families coming to us for care.
