We didn't go outside because it's nice.
We went outside because the research was clear.
Time in natural environments reduces cortisol and adrenaline levels. Measurably, consistently and across populations. It lowers blood pressure and heart rate. It improves attention and cognitive function. It decreases symptoms of anxiety and depression and accelerates physical recovery in people with illness, disability, and chronic stress.
The green space, the water, the unpredictability of natural settings. All of it activates systems in the body that indoor environments simply can't reach.
Nature isn't a supplement to Recreational Therapy. For a lot of people, it's the medicine.
