Back to school is in full swing📚✨ Let’s talk about a few signs that may mean it’s time to take a closer look.

Once we get through that first week, the excitement starts to wear off a little. The new backpacks, fun school supplies, and fresh classroom can only keep them excited for so long.📝

Keep an eye out for things like:

• Dreading school each day
• Spending hours on a simple homework assignment
• Getting overly frustrated or avoiding schoolwork
• Disliking or avoiding reading (in a child that typically enjoys it!)

These things don’t always mean there’s a bigger concern, but they are worth paying attention to, especially if you notice them starting to affect your child’s confidence, mood, or overall well-being.

Take note of what you’re seeing, and trust your gut. If you’re wondering if it’s time to take a closer look, schedule a consult! We’d love to chat about what’s going on and how we can help. 🤍

I actually love back-to-school affirmations..with one little caveat.

If an affirmation feels completely unbelievable to your child, it’s probably not going to help much.

For example, if your child is really anxious about the first day of school, asking them to repeat, “I’m not nervous,” probably isn’t going to magically make the nerves disappear.

Instead, I’d choose affirmations that make room for those feelings while also building confidence.

✨ I can do hard things.
✨ It’s okay to ask for help.
✨ I don’t have to be perfect to do my best.
✨ I’ve done new things before, and I can do them again.
✨ My feelings are real, and I can still be brave.

Here’s the thing: I don’t actually want kids to stop feeling nervous. I want them to learn that they can handle feeling nervous. Sometimes that’s the affirmation kids need most 🤍

Looking through these images can help your child better understand what they are feeling and help you to lead them in the right direction🌟

No, we’re not constantly psychoanalyzing you in every conversation😆

But really, there are a LOT of misconceptions surrounding what a school psychologist actually does… let us know if you have a few hours to sit and chat about it📚🧠🤭

When it comes to evaluations, I’m rarely listening for a diagnosis. Instead, I’m listening for patterns.

The little details that don’t seem to fit. The comments parents almost apologize for bringing up because they don’t know if they’re important. Sometimes they’re not; sometimes they’re the biggest clue.

That’s why I spend so much time asking questions. Not because I’m looking for a specific answer, but because understanding WHY something is happening is usually what helps us figure out what to do next🧠

We’re back to answer more of your questions!

This week’s question: How do I know if I should see a school psychologist, developmental pediatrician or a neuropsychologist?🧠🧐

Thanks for tuning in this week! Feel free to comment below with any questions you may have or submit them on Monday to our Instagram story!🤍
