Ardoin's Funeral Home - Mamou

Ardoin's Funeral Home - Mamou The staff at Ardoin’s Funeral Home is committed to your complete satisfaction. Ardoin’s Funeral Homes was purchased by Wilbur and Hilda Ardoin from A.F. Mr.

McGee & Son in 1938. Wilbur Ardoin was working in the family dry goods business when he decided to purchase the Eunice funeral home. Later, in the following year, came the extension of the Ville Platte funeral home as well as additional locations in Mamou, La (1950), Basile, La (1965), and Iota, La (1973). The Ardoin's maintained a successful yet independent operation. Along with the funeral homes

, there was a granite and marble works business as well as a casket manufacturing facility (ECCO – Eunice Casket Company). Throughout the years, the funeral homes and property in the larger towns were sold off to local establishments and relocated to other growing parts of the town with bigger and fancier facilities. Subsequently, the granite and marble business was sold in 1953 to a distant member of the Ardoin family and the casket manufacturing facility was deactivated and torn down to make room for a more elaborate and modern Eunice funeral home. The Ardoin funeral heritage maintained its independence for many years until 1986 when they merged with Hixson Group out of Lake Charles, La. In 1988 a company by the name of Service Corporation International out of Houston, TX, purchased the group ultimately becoming its parent provider. After many years of successful corporate ownership Ardoin's was purchased and is currently privately owned by Legacy Funeral Service of Louisiana.

Have you ever wondered where the term pallbearer comes from?

The word "pall" originally referred to the decorative cloth that was draped over a casket during funeral processions. Centuries ago, the individuals chosen to accompany the casket often carried or supported the pall itself, rather than the casket.

Over time, the role evolved, and today a pallbearer is someone selected to help carry or es**rt the casket as a final act of honor, respect, and love for a family member or friend.

Roger Paul Morein

Roger Paul Morein, a faithful and hardworking man whose life was marked by devotion to his family, proud resilience, and commitment to his community, passed away at his residence on August 10, 2026, in Mamou. Born in Pine Prairie on July 27, 1932, Roger spent 94 remarkable years enriching the lives of all who were fortunate to know him.

Roger was known for his unwavering faith and deep-rooted values. Growing up he was taught to have integrity, perseverance, and faith. Throughout his life, his devotion was apparent in the care and guidance he offered his family and his weekly adoration at St. Ann's Catholic Church.

He is survived by his children, Connie Morein, Jeanie Morein, and Rod Morein, all of Mamou, whose lives reflect the strength and character they inherited from their father. Roger leaves behind cherished grandchildren Taylor Morein and Zachary Morein along with their mother, Rhonda, as well as great-grandchildren Colton Richard and Remi Richard, each of whom brought tremendous joy and pride into his later years.

He is reunited with his wife of 47 years, Margaret Carriere Morein; parents, Armand Morein and Bertha Guillory Morein; son, Paul Ricky Morein; brother, Elince Guillory; and sister, Annie Deville whose passing preceded his.

A man of many talents and interests, Roger found fulfillment in his long career as an oilfield worker and crawfish farmer. He was especially proud of having managed his crawfish business on his own for a decade, an achievement that spoke to his diligence and self-reliance. His college accounting diploma contributed to his thoughtful and efficient management, both in business and at home.

Roger was well known for his love of simple but meaningful pleasures, playing cards, tending his garden, enjoying a spirited game of checkers with his brother's Texas family, and welcoming each new year of his life with his annual birthday celebrations. The last four years, these gatherings were anticipated with particular excitement, and they were among his most treasured times.

In addition to his work and family, Roger found purpose in service. He enjoyed helping at election polls whenever possible and took particular pride in his simple acts of kindness, such as bringing grocery bags to the St. Francis center, supporting those in need within his community.

Those close to Roger recall with admiration his steadfastness, often described as “hard headed,” but always with a sense of affectionate respect that speaks to the strength of his convictions. Above all, he was a great husband and father: loving, reliable, and principled.

The community is invited to pay their respects during a visitation at Ardoin’s Funeral Home on August 13, 2026, from 9:00 AM until Mass at St Ann Catholic Church at 1:30 PM with Father Arockia Doss Palthasar officiating. A rosary will be prayed by Father Casey Dugas at 10:00 AM. Roger will be laid to rest at New St. Ann Cemetery.

The legacy Roger Paul Morein leaves behind is not one measured simply in years, but in the depth of his generosity, his work ethic, and his enduring love for family, faith, and community. He will be dearly missed, but his memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

Billy "Nash" Johnson

A life filled with faith, family, music, and love came to a peaceful close on Thursday, August 6, 2026, as Billy "Nash" Johnson entered eternal rest at the age of 62.

Born in Ville Platte, Louisiana, Billy made his home in Mamou for many years, where he was known as a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, gifted musician, talented craftsman, and faithful friend. Above all else, Billy was a devoted Catholic whose faith guided the way he lived his life. He found great strength in God, loved his church, and treasured every opportunity to spend time with those he loved most.

Billy shared 40 wonderful years of marriage with the love of his life, Emeline Doyle Johnson. Together they built a home filled with laughter, music, faith, and unwavering devotion to family. His greatest joy was being surrounded by those he loved.

A graduate of the University of Southwestern Louisiana (USL) with a degree in General Studies, Billy enjoyed a successful career as a heavy equipment salesman. Yet no matter where life took him, he was happiest with a guitar in his hands. Music was not simply something he enjoyed—it was part of who he was.

Billy's passion for the guitar was legendary among those who knew him. His collection of guitars numbered well over thirty, each one cherished. Every day he devoted himself to perfecting his craft, always striving to become an even better musician. His remarkable talent earned him the respect of fellow musicians and audiences alike.

Throughout his lifetime, Billy performed with several well-known local bands, including Lynn August and the Hot August Knights, Last Flight with Vic Slaven and Tommy Joe Richard. Manuel Labor with Chuck Manuel, Mike Broussard, Wife Emeline Johnson. Bayou Rouge with his brother Tony Johnson, James Manuel, Chuck Manuel Charles Davide. Whether performing before a packed dance hall or a small hometown gathering, Billy entertained every audience with the same energy, humility, and passion. His music carried him across the country and around the world, allowing him to share his gift while creating friendships and memories that would last a lifetime.

Beyond music, Billy was a true handyman with an incredible ability to repair almost anything. If something was broken, he could usually find a way to make it work again. He also possessed a deep appreciation for history and enjoyed learning about the people and events that shaped the world.

Billy will be remembered for his warm smile, generous heart, quick wit, quiet strength, and unwavering love for his family. His legacy lives on through the music he shared, the lives he touched, and the countless memories created with those fortunate enough to know him. Though his guitar has fallen silent, the beautiful melodies he gave to the world will continue to echo in the hearts of all who loved him.

Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife, Emeline Doyle Johnson; his children, Emeline Jesse Jean Johnson, Holly Lafleur, Paul Lafleur, Michael Lafleur, and Dixie Lafleur and his treasured grandchildren, Shon, Alexis, Destiny, Nicholas, and McKenzie, who brought endless pride and happiness to his life.

He is also survived by his father, Lee Ray Johnson of Ville Platte; his brothers, Kenneth and Tony Johnson; his sister, Donna Johnson; along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, lifelong friends, and fellow musicians.

Billy is reunited in Heaven with his beloved mother, Pearl Jean Devillier Johnson, and his grandparents, Wendy and Agnes (Ma Truck) Johnson and Constance Pierrottie Devillier (Ma Betty) Emery Devillier whom he loved dearly.
