☀️ **New Hampshire pet owners: Blue-green algae is back!** 🐾

Warm summer weather can lead to harmful blue-green algae blooms in NH lakes and ponds. Even a small amount can be toxic to dogs if they drink the water or lick it off their fur.

⚠️ **Watch for:** Vomiting, drooling, weakness, diarrhea, tremors, seizures, or collapse.

✅ Avoid water that looks green, scummy, or like spilled paint, and rinse your dog after swimming.

If you think your pet has been exposed, **seek emergency veterinary care immediately.**

☀️🐶 Protect Your Pets from the Heat! 🐾
Hot weather can become life-threatening for pets in a matter of minutes. Help keep them safe by providing plenty of fresh water, access to shade, and limiting exercise to the cooler parts of the day. Always check the pavement before walks—if it's too hot for your hand, it's too hot for their paws.

🚫 NEVER leave your pet in a parked car, even for a minute. Temperatures inside a vehicle can rise rapidly, even with the windows cracked.

Watch for signs of heatstroke: excessive panting, drooling, weakness, vomiting, stumbling, bright red gums, or collapse. If you notice any of these signs, move your pet to a cool area, begin cooling them with cool (not ice-cold) water, and seek veterinary care immediately.

A little extra care during hot weather can make all the difference. Stay cool and keep your furry friends safe! ❤️🐾

🇺🇸 July 4th Weekend is Loading... 🇺🇸

Before the celebrations begin, take a moment to make sure your pet is ready for the holiday weekend!

✅ Refill medications before your veterinarian closes
✅ Check your supply of prescription diets
✅ Make sure anxiety medications are on hand if your pet is sensitive to fireworks
✅ Verify you have enough insulin, heart medications, or other daily prescriptions to get through the weekend
✅ Ensure ID tags and microchip information are up to date

The Fourth of July is one of the busiest times of year for veterinary emergency hospitals due to:
🎆 Firework anxiety and escapes
🌭 Dietary indiscretion from cookout foods
☀️ Heat-related illness
🦴 Foreign body ingestion

A little preparation now can help keep the focus on family, fun, and fireworks—not an emergency trip to the vet.

🚨 “Just a Ball”... or so we thought! 🚨

This dog came to our ER after swallowing part of a toy ball. X-rays showed material in the stomach, and surgery was needed to remove it.

What we found? Not just the ball. 😳

Along with the toy pieces were several other "treasures" that had been collected along the way. Apparently, this pup believes every toy is a tasting menu.

🐾 Dogs don't always stop at one foreign object. If you know your pet swallowed something they shouldn't, there may be more hiding in the stomach than you realize.

Foreign body ingestion can lead to:
⚠️ Vomiting
⚠️ Loss of appetite
⚠️ Abdominal pain
⚠️ Intestinal obstruction
⚠️ Emergency surgery

The good news? This adventurous eater is on the road to recovery after having their collection removed.

💡 Pro tip: If your dog's toy looks like it's missing pieces, there's a chance those pieces may have ended up somewhere other than under the couch.

🚨 :"What happened?"
🐱 : "I thought he was a snack."

Today's patient arrived after deciding that Pokey from the Gumby cartoon looked less like a toy and more like an appetizer. Thankfully, our team was able to help, and this four-legged critic is doing well!

Reminder: Cats don't always make the best decisions when it comes to what belongs in their stomachs. If your pet swallows a toy, clothing, rocks, socks, or their favorite clay-animation sidekick, contact your veterinarian right away.

No Pokeys were harmed in the making of this ER visit... well, except this one. 😅
