Before: "I just wanted to make a new friend..." 😬

After: "Turns out... that was a terrible idea."

This sweet pup had an up-close encounter with a porcupine—and the porcupine definitely had the upper hand.

After a whole lot of careful quill removal , this happy patient was feeling much better and looking a whole lot less... pointy.

A reminder that porcupines don't throw their quills, but they detach very easily when touched. If your dog has a run-in with one, resist the urge to pull them out at home. Quills can break, migrate deeper into tissues, and are incredibly painful. Getting them removed safely under sedation is often the best option.

We're happy to report this pup went from "porcupine pincushion" to "ready to head home" in no time. ❤️🐾

Meet Ari. ❤️

Ari apparently woke up and chose parkour.

She decided to leap from a third-story window, then spent the next 30 hours exploring the neighborhood before finally making her way to our ER.

We were even told the spot where she landed had a dent from the impact.😳

Given that history, we were bracing for the worst. Instead, Ari walked away with just a limp and some scuffed-up paw pads. Safe to say she used up a lifetime's worth of luck in one day.

As impressive as Ari's story is, we don't recommend recreating it. Open windows, balconies, and elevated decks can pose a serious risk for curious pups.

We're so glad this daredevil is on the mend—and we hope her next adventure involves all four paws staying firmly on the ground. 🐾❤️

☀️ **New Hampshire pet owners: Blue-green algae is back!** 🐾

Warm summer weather can lead to harmful blue-green algae blooms in NH lakes and ponds. Even a small amount can be toxic to dogs if they drink the water or lick it off their fur.

⚠️ **Watch for:** Vomiting, drooling, weakness, diarrhea, tremors, seizures, or collapse.

✅ Avoid water that looks green, scummy, or like spilled paint, and rinse your dog after swimming.

If you think your pet has been exposed, **seek emergency veterinary care immediately.**

☀️🐶 Protect Your Pets from the Heat! 🐾
Hot weather can become life-threatening for pets in a matter of minutes. Help keep them safe by providing plenty of fresh water, access to shade, and limiting exercise to the cooler parts of the day. Always check the pavement before walks—if it's too hot for your hand, it's too hot for their paws.

🚫 NEVER leave your pet in a parked car, even for a minute. Temperatures inside a vehicle can rise rapidly, even with the windows cracked.

Watch for signs of heatstroke: excessive panting, drooling, weakness, vomiting, stumbling, bright red gums, or collapse. If you notice any of these signs, move your pet to a cool area, begin cooling them with cool (not ice-cold) water, and seek veterinary care immediately.

A little extra care during hot weather can make all the difference. Stay cool and keep your furry friends safe! ❤️🐾
