Axel, the beloved Great Dane therapy dog, (owned and trained by our founder, Julie McCarthy Brown) brought his healing energy to our residents recently!

Axel is suffering from bone cancer, but he’s still so intuitive, gentle, and the women are very receptive to his love and attention!

Hang in there, Axel 🐾

Our residents and clinical staff recently enjoyed a beautiful day together at Pawtuckaway State Park! With warm weather, fresh air, and plenty of opportunities to explore, the outing gave everyone a chance to relax, connect, and enjoy time together outside of the home.

Shared experiences like these help strengthen relationships and create positive memories along the recovery journey.

Women arriving at Dismas Home are justice-involved and working to overcome substance use disorder, often with nowhere else to turn. Your support helps provide safe housing, recovery programming, life skills, employment support, and the stability needed to rebuild their lives, reconnect with family, and become contributing members of their communities.

Together, we can help more women break the cycle of addiction and involvement with the justice system, creating lasting change for themselves and our communities. Consider making a donation today by visiting https://dismashomenh.org/donate

Back in 2014, Julie McCarthy-Brown and her husband, Jack, had spent nearly a decade volunteering inside New Hampshire prisons, where they repeatedly witnessed the same cycle: women leaving incarceration with nowhere safe to go.

Together they decided to launch a program that would help women rebuild their lives. They formed a nonprofit organization and created Dismas Home, NH.

In 2016 the first Dismas Home opened its doors in Manchester. Now with the opening of a second larger home in Rochester, Dismas Home will serve 28 women at a time who will get the support they need to thrive.

Thank you, Julie, for your vision and commitment.

While our ribbon cutting marked an exciting new beginning, our work is far from finished.

Before we can welcome our first residents, there are still rooms to furnish, spaces to complete, and essential items to provide. You can help turn our Rochester Home into a place of comfort, stability, and hope by purchasing much-needed items from our Amazon Registry.

Every donation brings us one step closer to opening our doors and welcoming the women who will call this Home their own. Visit the link in our bio today! 💙
