Maine Chapter, American Academy of Pediatrics

An organization of pediatricians and subspecialists aiming to fulfill the Chapter’s mission: to improve the lives of children and adolescents in Maine.

The Maine Chapter, AAP is a membership organization of 220 pediatricians and subspecialists who are dedicated to fulfilling the Chapter’s mission: to improve the lives of children and adolescents in Maine. The Chapter supports the achievement of this mission through the following activities:

Provide members with the best tools, skills and knowledge to remain the best qualified health professional

s who deliver care to infants, children, adolescents and young adults. Participate in forums in which issues of importance to children and pediatricians are addressed. Work with individuals, government and non-governmental organizations to secure access to and delivery of high quality care in a medical home for all children. Monitor the effect of changes to the health care delivery system on children and pediatricians. Provide opportunities for members to get involved in committees, programs and initiatives at national AAP. The Maine AAP also supports the following resources:

Celebrating Maine’s high measles vaccination rates for kindergarteners! While 98% is an incredible milestone, let’s remember to protect those still at risk—immunocompromised children, homeschoolers, and young kids not yet vaccinated. Community immunity matters, but every child deserves protection.

A new report from the U.S. CDC shows that kindergarten vaccination rates have declined to 92% nationwide. This rate is not high enough to protect against the spread of preventable diseases, like measles and whooping cough, which puts children at serious risk. An important message from Maine’s healthcare associations:

The Maine Medical Association and partner organizations remain committed to supporting Maine families with trusted, evidence-based vaccine guidance and access to safe and effective immunizations.

In response to the August 10 executive order related to childhood immunizations, our organizations have released a joint statement outlining concerns about the potential impact on access to routine childhood vaccination and the health and well-being of Maine children and families.

We encourage families to continue speaking with their trusted clinicians about the vaccines that will best protect their children.
